My garage where my bikes live is 2 streets away, never had a problem with it and ive rented the garage for 33yrs.
A while ago i noticed a for sale sign going up on a house at the end of the street, knowing they rented the garage right outside my house i asked them if they were giving it up and if so could i have it.

They were happy to do this, their sale took a while but today i moved everything into my new garage.

When i last renewed my insurance i told them i will be changing my garage in the next few months, they were ok with that and said to ring them once i had moved.

So i phoned Bennetts today to tell them.
Looking at my policy it does say:
Bike kept overnight - Garaged at residence
But they did ask me to ring them and i thought i would just to make sure everything is 100% should i even need to make a claim.

Went through everything and she says "that will be £30 please"
whats that for?
"an administration charge and we have to email you a new policy"
What do i need a new policy for?
"because you have changed where the bike is kept"
What will it say on the new policy?
"Bike kept overnight Garaged at residence"
But it says that now, im not paying £30 for that.
"But you have to, you have changed where the bike is kept"

So your going to send me a new policy that says Bike kept overnight Garaged at residence to replace the policy that says Bike kept overnight Garaged at residence and i have to pay £30 for that?

"your right that does seem a bit odd, i'll cancel that and we'll leave it as it was".

While your there i've just bought a new bike can i add it to my current policy.
"Yes ok, give me the details"

Runs it through the comp and tells me its £8.50 to add it (policy runs out in Oct) so i say yes thats ok i'll add that.

"there is a £30 admin fee, so its £38.50"

I'm only paying £70 a year for my policy, i've no plans to use the new bike just yet so i'll wait till my policy expires and take a new policy for both.
"ok thank you for your call"

5mins later i get an email saying thank you for changing your policy!!! And a new policy thats exactly the same!!!!

Now I hate to be that guy, with the salt and the open wound and such like.

But A) I suspect you have been keeping residence under a rock not to know that insurance cvnts charge for changing anything on a policy.

B) Would you mind explaining to me in your best translation from Potato how the insurance company knows the exact ordnance grid reference of your garage, and can discern one garage from a other on your street?

Yours very much tongue-in-cheek,

Jim

I guess you could always go with someone more expensive than £70 a year that changes this stuff for "free"?

Why not take out a new policy on the new bike then add the old one to the new policy when the old one runs out..... that's what I had to do with the CBR, because I refused to pay £70 to add it to the policy for 1 month

The Mid Life Crisis is a good earner for brokers.
I'm not even sure the insurer get a cut.

I don't change hee-haw from term to term just to deny them their miserable existence.

They are a shower of reptilian bastirts.

But it would be no fun without them (some of them).

I've never had to change anything on any insurance (car or bike) for 15+yrs, last time i did it was free!

They asked me the postcode of the street where the garage was.
The original garage was 2 streets away, both garages have different postcodes, i'm not sure what's confusing you!

The flats where I live has 19 floors, from the ground floor to the 10th floor has 1 postcode, then from 11 up has a different postcode (I only found that out when I changed my insurance over to this address)

Whenever I insure I always ask that any admin fees are waived for the duration of the policy. They have never said no - always wanting to get the business I guess.

Insurance act. Read up. Everyone should get a handle on what their rights are and what's expected of them.

In order to avoid a policy the insurer must prove that it asked you a clear fair and not misleading question, that the answer to that question was incorrect and that had it have known the truth it wouldn't have insured you under any circumstances or at any terms.

How do you think they'd get on with the last point for the sake of a day?

I have had all my "admin fee's" removed, simply by asking them exactly what the charge is for.

If they can't justify why they are charging something then they can't charge it.

Normally by just not accepting it they cant be bothered with the hassle of a moaning customer and therefore waive the fee as a good will gesture. Laughing

Never really got this "admin fee" stuff, other than the obvious money making angle. I've noticed a few Bike Dealers charge £60.00 "admin fee" for the pleasure of buying one of their bikes.

Maybe I should ask for a "visiting fee" for when I go to see them

Needless to say I'll be going to one that doesn't charge a fee.
Don't know if that's an option with bike insurance though, even though I recently changed my car and amended that online for free.

I can't stand their admin fees.

I changed my policy because I changed my exhaust and that was £12 plus £30 admin fee. I've nearly hit my 5k agreed mileage too and was going to change it, but after reading another thread they can bugger off.

Don't worry about the mileage, if you end up going over and claiming they either A) wont look at mileage or B) charge the extra before you pay out.

Its only an estimated mileage that they ask you for.

Yes. Yes they can. You've entered into a contract with their terms of service. If those terms have been clearly set out and you've not rejected them then you've agreed to those charges.

Just because they've let you off doesn't mean there's any legal standing on the grounds of them being unjustified.

Even the old ICOB rules clearly stated that if the terms were laid out then there would be no test of reasonableness

one of my policies, I think I currently have 3, so it might be on one of the bikes I sold earlier in the year, anyway it specifies how much they will charge, so much per so many miles, I think something like up to a maximum of £250
