MOT Failed Rear Foot Rests?

Wasn't the only thing my bike failed on, but the MOT guy was going over it with a fine toothed comb.

I read the certificate and in the list comes up "left and right rear foot rests" for pillions... On a learner bike, and I've been to the same place two consecutive years and it never failed on foot rests. And the MOT examiner exclaimed "Only thing good on this one is the seat!" Then he noticed me watching him in ear range.

So what do you think, just looking for any reason to fail the bike on for mechanic labour?

They kept saying "We can sort it for you" and the likes. Looked disappointed when I said I'd take it elsewhere. I'll never let a MOT place carry out work on my vehicles then it becomes a occurrence every MOT.

If it has a rear seat then it needs foot rests for the MOT, regardless of engine size.

Mine failed on rear pegs once because they were not easy to put up and down needing a squirt of oil. One squirt later and all was fine.

Could you not make it so the "passenger" seat cannot be used by a passenger and hence the requirement for the pegs be moot.

My CG didn't have the rear pegs and I had a bungee over the "passenger" part, which held the indicator on . They let me off with that each time.

Why not try to bolt a rack to the rear part of the seat, some storage and the potential for passenger is removed.

on my last MOT I showed him the footrests were under the seat and asked if he wanted to hang on while I fitted them, he just passed it.

If You have a list of things wrong with the vehicle it exponentially increases the testers strictness, if it was the only thing wrong he may have looked more kindly on you. What else did it fail on?

It shouldn't be too difficult/expensive to stick a cheap set on.

Does it say enduro on the logbook. If so perfectly valid for an enduro bike of certain specs to be exempt from pegs and indicators.
