Just got a new first big bike, been insured with bennetts for a couple of years not the cheapest but fairy competitive. They won't insure me on the new bike so got some quotes.
MCE by far the cheapest , of the insurers i know Aviva,CN,Devvit are between £300-£500 more.
Read some horror stories about MCE but surely if i pay up front there should be no drama? advice would be great.

All insurance companies are shit and are only interested in taking money and not paying it out.

Pay the cheapest and pray you don't crash/get hit.

As I've said before.. insurance is a legal requirement don't donate more than you need to. Those horror stories are probably from having to deal them while making a claim, ones I've read plenty of on google at least.

High admin fee's I will say, just be prepared for that if ever you need to change anything, put as high a mileage as you can without increasing premium and make sure all details are as accurate as possible before taking it out, job jobbed. Thumbs Up

Cheers mate, all details are correct and if i pay the full premium surely i can avoid any cancelling fees/renewal problems. MCE it is then.

that's a bad move if you read this forum - chap's bike sold at auction as salvage despite a claim having not been made!

but then we tend to hear the bad stuff and not the good

Why? You need to find out why?

When you get a quote now, your going to have to answer yes to the question "have you ever been refused insurance" because you just have!

I think you're unclear on what a proper insurance refusal is.

You probably right there, but he has insurance with them already and they are refusing to insure him.
Its not like its some 17yr old trying to insure a Bugatti Veyron on his birthday and being refused.
Its an already insured customer being refused another policy.

Given most insurance company's would throw this back at you if you tried making a claim, that's why i said he needs to know why he's being refused.

I think it was because i have just passed my full test. Had a call from Bennetts today (they said they would ring me back) and they managed to get within £60 of MCE and keep my old bike insured on multibike so i went with them , so fair play. The guy did explain the reason why the computer said no but it's all sorted now.

Plus. Check the 'Statement of Fact' the idiots send you with the docs.
I don't think any of those I have had since 2006 have been correct.
It is important as a legal document.

A wee Blade at MCE even tried to charge me 25 notes to change their fecking error when I called to tell them. Flipping angry was I.

I wouldn't have baawwd about it if the SoF had said, 'Wealthy, Fit as Fuck and Drop Dead Handsome'. Very Happy

ALL of them; FACT. /THREAD

In fact, once you move past the internet hyperbole and gesturing believe it or not there are indeed insurance companies out there making claims payments in a timely and expedient fashion. Sure, there are some horror stories too - why wouldn't there be; lots of customers, lots of claims, lots to go wrong; nobody can be perfect all the time.

On a road trip over in Wales last year a mate of mine chucked his R1 off a cliff in front of me. Broke his ribs. The bike wasn't actually too badly damaged but wasn't ridable. He went off to hospital and I waited for recovery which was arranged by MCE having reported it to their out of hours service.

Now bearing in mind this was Sunday night on the top of the black mountains - recovery turned up about 2 and a half hours later. I didn't think that was too bad TBH.

What was bad was the next 4-5 days of phone calls from every accident management company in the world that MCE had sold my number to no doubt - asking whether there was anyone responsible for my accident. MY accident.... not my mate's accident.

Once through all that and he was out of hospital - in terms of getting the bike payment sorted out on the main policy they were actually pretty fast and pretty fair. However, being a bloke that knows nothing about insurance - he'd taken out a policy with an horrendously high excess so he was a grand down there before he started. He'd also taken helmet and leathers cover which was on an indemnity basis, ie ex wear and tear and his leathers were at least 10 years old and lid half that, so that wasn't worth having. He'd also taken Personal Accident cover which didn't pay out because it was only if he happened to be de-limbed or blinded or deaded, neither of which applied, and even if it did the £1500 or so cover he'd be afforded wouldn't be top of his priority list. So basically, the add ons were shit and the excess terrible - but he bought the policy right enough so....

Being in the industry you can imagine the amount of claims I'm asked to become involved in by friends / family when stuff goes wrong. TBH I've never had any that have gotten particularly sticky. Worst that I've had is my mate with an Accord Type R getting offered a low baller for the write off which was upped significantly with a swift phone call - he then ended up something like £1500 better off by buying back the salvage, so it worked out very well in the end.

Another mate of mine got hit from behind in his 200SX - pride and joy car with a lot of money having been spent on it, but book price of naff all back then. That took a letter and a bit of hand holding to get them to listen properly but again it wasn't horrendous for a specialist vehicle claim and he ended up significantly better off in his pocket as a result too. Start / finish was less than 3 weeks paid out.

Dad's audi that got nicked was paid out in less than 10 days and that was with him dicking around trying to find the service history.

It's not all doom and gloom, actually.
