going to get round to finally cleaning and lubing my chain, will any bike paddock stand do or are they specific to bikes? i have a new shape CBR125r currently. any particular ones I should be avoiding? looking at spending 30-50£

They are for the most part a universal fit, that being said mine takes a bit of coaxing to fit on mine.
Get a pair of bobbins so your swingarm doesn't get scratched Thumbs Up

I looked into this when I briefly had a CBR125R. Best I can tell an Abba stand is best as you can fit it yourself without any help if you need to. Costs a bit more than your projected budget though.

Never bought one as I passed my test and traded it in for my XJ6 which has a centre stand, but had I kept the XJ6 for longer I would have as I couldn't work out a reasonable way to maintain the chain without one.

silly question but how do you get it on and in place? with the abba stand its pretty straight forward but with those stands i dont understand how you get it up, also what are the bobbin hooks? it says they are sold separately to the stand

It has rubber feet that you put under the swingarm at each side. Then when on, you slowly pull the paddock stand to lift the bike in place.

This video shows it better, mine are the "Type 1 cup type"

Sorry, I wouldn't know but you don't need bobbins with this paddock stand.

I have those and the same bike as op.

It can be tricky to get in place. I've scratched the underside of my exhaust on several occasions.

I get the rubber thingys in position, hold the bar and luggage rack and press the bar down with my foot while pulling the bike backwards.
Not tried it with a heavy bike but with mine(about 170kg dry) its easy.
