I need gloves. I lost one taking a swing at some cnut about a month ago. Mad

The glove/s I lost was always v tight around my fingers and had never eased off even after many years of all weather riding and massaging all sorts of rubs and creams into them.
So I must need a more accommodating fit.

I have looked at the following:

Dainese Full Metal D1

Some (3 out of 4) reviews on Revzilla said they pinched pinkies.

The tape around the palm thing, for sizing, is easy to do but finger size doesn't seem to count in reviews.

Are there no moterbike shops near you?
I would go to one of these and try on as many as you want, then go home and order them online. Will be a bit safer doing it that way rather than just hoping they will fit round your pinkies.

Should you find a lack of local bike shops near you it's probably twunts doing this that have put them out of business.

I would go to the bike shop and try them on. I have long thumbs and so some gloves even the same size do not fit.

I spoke to one of the dealers who said if I find one on-line they will try to match it even if it's not one they stock.

I was just interested to know if there were some with wider fit.
I don't want to go a size up as that doesn't work.

I suppose they are all cut and stitched to fit set of standard dummy hands but was curious to know if some makes are big (Men) and some are slim (Boy).

It was of an open hand swing.

My fingers aren't particularly short but I do have the classic 'brickie's hands' and finding any glove that'll go over them is usually tricksie.
The Dainese Jericho's 2XL were always a tight fit all round and the bloody inners were only stitched around the cuff to the outer which meant they always came out whenever hands were sweaty or gloves were damp (pretty much every time then!)
Pinched fingers are just something I assumed one had to live with. I suppose the thinking by manufacturers is that only pen-pushers can afford to ride bikes so they only cater for their lily white slender mitts Rolling Eyes

I recall owning a pair of real leather lined gauntlets back in the eighties which were a great fit (I think it was the same glove issued to biking PC's) but finding anything like that nowadays is like looking for rocking horse shit

EDIT: Forgot to say that touring gloves tend to be more comfortable (in so much that they actually go over my hands whereas the more rigid racing types don't)

I use touring Alpinestars (Goretex) but when the likes of that bloke Rossi is up my arse I need the 'tecknikal' McGubbins for feel on controls.
The bike is a bit 'finger tip/hair trigger control' so the touring glove sucks.

Those Dainese Full Metal are priced from the cheapest (I posted a link) to £300+
That's why a lot of bike shops closed. No one can afford their prices now.

Well £3.50/4.50+ for 50p worth of lager isn't exactly fair pricing Mr. Landlord you dealer of death and misery. Smile

Have you ever run a pub or do you have any in depth understanding of the industry?

Anyway gloves - I find Held gloves are quite roomy in the fingers so might be worth trying some

Well without side tracking tooo much.
No I haven't ever run a pub.
But I do know a lot of folk are very successful at it.
Probably because they are:
a) Good at Business.
b) Know how to make a pub work.
c) Have a Very Niche spot (Maryhill in Glasgow, Cheetam Hill Manchester).

You can't simply run a pub from the house sometimes you have to be behind the counter 'among' your punters.
Public 'House' I know it's an old term but it is how they got started in the Bronze Age 1356AD . (That's when the Guinness Keg was invented)

Alpinestars GP Pro gloves are great, the only ones you need to watch out for is a set with a protector just below the pinky on the palm of the hand. I think it was a 2012 revision of the gloves.

Go on then I will bite, what's wrong with wanting to save yourself some money by ordering things online instead of buying them at a shop? If your not in a rush for things I can't see the problem.
And anyway there is a lack of local bike shops down here, there are two semi decent ones within about 20 miles of me after that it's a 200 mile round trip to the next biggest one.

Perhaps because you become a time waster and that business has to provide you with a service that you're never going to actually pay for. Ergo, you're free loading and if everyone does the same then that business goes under - then you've got no bike stores any more and you have to order online and take the fitment / postage lottery.

Up to you; I feel local bike stores are a service I'm happy to pay the extra to use.

Don't get me wrong arry I don't do it on everything, lids I buy in shops as well as the bike I currently own and my jacket and trousers. But sometimes I don't see anything wrong with wanting to save a few quid here and there, I'm sure we are all the same that way ( by wanting to save a bit of money sometimes)

That's two strikes for glove chaffing factor so far the Dainese Full Metal D1 got three reviews where pinkies were pinched.
The Gloves I had were old HG racing gloves. Not a break/brake in them and used all the time. But my forefingers got numb after a hour or two.
I will probably get the AS gloves as I fancied them before rather than the Dainese. But if I can find a Held dealer I have to look at them too.
It's not the dosh, which is significant, it's the research needed before buying something I'll hate coz I'm so tight I'd cripple my hands just to get the use out them. Very Happy

I've nothing against saving money and whilst using your local bike shop as a sizing outlet may be handy it is usually possible to purchase everything they sell cheaper online and if too many people do this then the shop doesn't get enough sales and goes under...leaving you with a round trip of 200 miles when you really need something that afternoon, not too mention a shrinking wealth of product information.
Internet businesses may offer cheaper goods because they don't have the added extras involved with shop front costs but it can be more of a ballache sorting out problems - unfortunately people don't tend to appreciate the benefits that shop service brings until it's too late, just one of the joys of raising a technology dependent society Wink

Exactly. Like my summer gloves that have split. If I'd bought them from a store I'd have been able to go back there and get a new pair same day. I bought them online and they're asking me to send them back and they'll assess. All well and good but then I don't have a pair of summer gloves for 2 weeks or so.

Its just a specific year you want to avoid, other than that they are great summer/track gloves.

To all who chipped in.
Thanks for all of the advice.

I will/may disappoint many to learn that being an edjit at heart I fell for a cheaper pair of gloves in the end.

I bought Knox Recon. Full Cuff, Scaphiod Protection System Rolling Eyes and Kevlar with Kangaroo bladebla... etc.

I think they're last season (Possibly When Foggy was riding) coz they were £98.
I tried a few makes and models and these fitted like a glove. Embarassed

If I find a retailer with the Dainese or Alpinestars, Held then I can always try and maybe buy.
It's pointless (for me) to mail order. I can't be arsed having to be in all day (next day) for the delivery and then the phaph to return if no good/shite.
