Two months ago I split with the woman I should be with (yes, boo boo, whatever). Since then my only conversation with lady type people has been along the lines of 'a pint of Smiths please', 'no, I don't want to max my meal' and 'pump number four please'.
I'm missing conversation with women. I work in a entirely male environment, which doesnt help, and never seem to meet women socially.
Im not after a relationship so I can play hide the sausage, (although that would be nice!!!), but would enjoy sitting down with a lady and a glass of wine just to enjoy their company.
Any thoughts, BCF?

(Ps do I need to make this thread NSFW?)

I'm fearing some of the answers I may get!

Then just maybe then someone else will come along?

You definitely don't give the impression of being the POF/Tinder type.

I tend to find that changing one's grazing pastures brings undiscovered new talent (not that I am looking, but having recently changed my grazing pastures has brought surprisingly interesting members of both genders to the surface)

Find one aspect of your life that you tend not to imagine yourself socialising around; even if its one you are slightly uncomfortable to imagine being in ... and make it a place to invest more time. Being "the new person" sometimes helps break the ice and gives you an excuse to chat to random people in an uncharacteristically gormless manner.

See, if you went to a biker event, you'd all talk about, I dunno, greasing your chain or something, and it wouldn't be so different, and you have expectations about the "certain type of lady" you would meet at such events.

But if you remove yourself slightly out of your comfort zone to something you think you might have an interest in but you wouldn't normally do (not photography, blatantly full of nutters looking for husbands).

I dunno, it's about thinking laterally: if you have a dog, go to Crufts and look at other breeds of the same dog as you have (don't need to take yours, just go and look at the same sort, and see who is breeding the same sort). You'll have something slightly in common with the people you meet, but nothing so great that you are already an expert in the subject, and you have to engage people in conversation with questions you feel reasonably confident asking cos you have a slight enough knowledge to look interested in the answers.

Examine what it is that your life currently includes, and then extrapolate.

Then be brave and step out there Smile

Good luck xx

Oh come on, he's been doing that for two months now and is clearly bored of that.

Strangely, I usually find just after a break-up that wanking is pretty much the last thing I want to do, cos it reminds me of intimacy, and I get too emotional to even do that.

(OK, I'll just put that one back in the hellkat TMI department ... Shifty )

for deisel, gaffer tape, bin liners and ruffies
After a few day of treatment I can drop her off anywhere any time suitably biddable and ready to work

Thank you Hell Kat. I appriciate your views. You're right, Plenty of Fish doesn't seem my bag - no disrespect to those on it but I want something different - I want companionship and friendship firstly, not a desire for another notch on my bedpost. I need to know a girls name before I'm interested, i need to discuss recent topics and debate the current affairs. Is PoF the place for this?

OP how old are you? Something similar happened to me when I was about 21, so I started drinking in town instead of at the local. Young women don't generally seem to drink in pubs, city centres is their natural habitat.

I'm now at least on a conversation level with half the regular binge drinking population of leeds who are under 25.

I'm forty. Despite seeming to be a confident, gobby, relatively out going twat at work (aided by experience and age being one of the elder members of my work mates) I'm actually quite shy with people I don't know. . I need to get to know someone on more than the 'how you doin' ' cliche line before I'm comfortable in their company, especially in a social situation.

For wanting friendship AND more? Sorry but my time of waking up and thinking 'and you are???' has finished.
Perhaps I worded it badly. What I meant was I need a friendship too.

Friendship with a women/women's is a good thing and I like having female mates as much as I do bloke mates, as it just keeps my ideas/mind and views balanced and able to see different opinions.

The hardest thing I've found is to have female close mates and a good relationship and lots of great sex all wrapped up in one person though! I'm not stupid enough to say I don't think it can exist or is not normal enough, but those people that say my partner, girl friend or wife is also my best mate and person I always would most confide in/be honest with or seek opinion from is something I've found hard at times to really believe in.

I can't think of any reason to socialise with women other than to play hide the sausage. They are boring as hell, I have absolutely nothing in common with any of them including my wife. My ideal partner would be an exact female clone of myself. That's the only way I could be with someone whose funny, witty, intelligent, good looking and with an excellent taste in music and films.

My "advice" would be that usually if you try and make something happen it won't. Things usually just occur on their own when your not expecting it.

Match.com worked for me. before that I went to pubs on my own, hit on girls that already had boyfriends, consoled myself with too much dutch courage, knocked myself out in the toilets and then staggered home, nearly getting run over twice as I'd wandered off the pavement.

It was a no-brainer for me.

So that's one vote for Match? I've got to say I'm seriously considering it. As HellKat says I'm not sure PoF is for me - although I'm not sure why. I get the impression from the thread that was on here a while back (where did it go??) that its aimed at a slightly different audience?

Book club

You could possibly play, 'pass the sausage' there, if you go prepared.

Going to some BCF meet looking for romance conjures all sorts of unpleasant pictures.

(hacksherly, you could omit the 'looking for romance' but and it still works)
