Ok so i havent completed mod 1/2 yet but im planning on getting everything sorted in the next few months. Just got a few questions hopefully people can answer and discuss.

I want a Hornet for my first bike ideally but i know i cant be picky if i want a good deal. What bikes are good first bikes (600cc+) to have and how much should i be looking to pay for one? Im guessing autotrader or ebay is the best place for them?.

What first bike did you guys get, how much did you pay for it and where did you buy from? Cheers.

How much should you be looking to pay? Well, how rich are you? Razz

My first big bike was a ZX6R J2 which was bought on here for 1 x NSR125.

Where to look? Bike Trader, eBay, owners club forums or any other bike forum are good places to start.

Like Ste said, depends on budget.

FZ6 is a good first bike if you go for the newer S2. I had one for years as my second bike and liked it - easy to ride, enough power to have a hoon on, even did a bit of touring.

SV650s can be had for cheaps if you like that kind of thing.

Lower budget than those then maybe a ZZR600 or similar. The ZZR is a good all rounder.

I want one that will be reliable and get me to work everyday, but something I can have fun on when going for a hoon. Budget would be max 2k. Cheers.

Erm, budget? Year?

Mine's an 07' plate, had 29k miles on it with FSH.

Got it for £2400 2 years ago..

IMO, Biketrader, Ebay, Enthusiast groups on the facebook. You can also use the 'sold listings' function on ebay to see recent bikes that have sold to get an idea of price. Thumbs Up

Both mine have been on ebay, ring them to make sure not potato and do a deal outside of ebay if necessary. Thumbs Up

Edit: Ah, 2k. You'll get a decent enough bike with that. Likely an older shape one but still regarded as great first bikes.

i scoured ebay for about 3 weeks for a 600cc bike, less than £1500 and not too far away. Had dozens on my watch list over the weeks... CBR's, GSXRs, SV's, Hornets, Bandits, Ninjas, Thundercats, anything - didn't matter... Some went for silly money, some only a few quid over my budget. Some were junk. Some clearly someone's pride and joy.

Eventually a Fazer came up that ticked all those boxes. I won the auction. Went and got it. Looked it over. Seemed honest enough. Paid cash. Rode it home.

i didn't over complicate things or restrict my options by deciding exactly what bike i wanted... (I didn't really want an all out sports bike, as i'm too old for that 'hunched over' riding position - but i would've got one at the right price, regardless) Any bike is better than no bike, and i think at that price point, there's not a world of difference between most of them.

In the end - got a decent Fazer for cheap. hasn't missed a beat and i still love riding it. Job jobbed.

98-02? £1250 for a good one.

If you've got £2k+ get an 07-on

If you have more than that, stop dicking about and get a triple.
