Hello to everybody on BCF! I'm a new user and will appreciate any advice.

I have a GSR 750 with USD forks which took a tumble when a car drove into my rear at very slow speed. The back end sustained an amazing amount of damage but the front seemed OK except for scrapes. However, now that I ride it again, I notice this: when the bike is going in a straight line, the handlebars and top yoke are a few degrees anticlockwise of dead centre.

I took it to Suzuki HK and asked them to loosen the yoke bolts and front axle and let the assembly straighten itself out; but they tell me that forks twisted in yokes does not happen with USD! This sounds incredibly unlikely to me so has anybody ever heard this before?

Just undo the trees. Get a friend to help you if you don't want to drop it. Give it a few light bounces and a wiggle and see if it lines up.

"Trees"? Sorry, that's a new one to me! But I assume you mean top and bottom yoke clamp bolts and front axle bolts?

Must need a front paddock stand to take the load off the front wheel though or the yokes will fall down over the forks?

Yeah this was my plan and I've done it many times with old-style right-way-up forks. But the Suzuki HK guy said that USD forks just don't twist in the yokes in the same way because of the bigger clamped diameter of the forks.

I am happy to try this job myself but I don't have that front stand and I can't see how to do it without.

Slacken the screws holding the mudguard, the brake calipers and front axle, then slacken the bottom yolk pinch bolts and try bouncing it around a bit. Don't slacken the top yolk bolts.
Tighten everything up again and it should have aligned itself, you may even hear it ping into place when you slacken the pinch bolts.
