Well, it's been a while since I posted some actual NEWS, so here's something that caught my eye today...
As you might know, Norton recently got a grant to develop an e-bike. Well, the chief designer of Norton, Simon Skinner, just announced their rather different project.
The engine will be a Norton/Ricardo Motorcycle made, liquid cooled, 1200cc V4 cylinder four stroke, with direct fuel injection making approx. 200hp. They say the motorcycle will be a combination of British racing heritage and the latest F1 technology.
The motorcycle will be also equipped with ''race-tech'' ABS and TCS, telemetry, programmable fuel maps etc.
The frame will be made of aerospace aluminum, the wheels and fairings of carbon fiber. The rear swingarm will be made of a carbon fiber composite or aluminium alloy. The whole exhaust system will be made of titanium.
est. price 25,000-30,000 GBP; the premium version should be around £54,000

If this actually makes it into production I'll eat all of my hair.
If huge motorcycle companies struggle to get Race spec ABS, traction, and switchable fuel maps to work well, what hope does Norton have? Hell, MotoGP teams can't get carbon swing arms to work.
Before someone says TT project, that was an Aprilia V4 engine in their own chassis. I admire the ambition, just expect they're going to disappoint their bank manager. ____________________ My Flickr |
