Help with cursor problem

My cursor keeps dissapearing. I type and suddenly it stops appearing on the screen and no letters appear. I have to click with my mouse to put the flashing line back and continue typing.

It's driving me insane and it's every programme. Online, word, everything.

Please, Any ideas?

Sounds like it's being pulled to another program/background task. Run the usual anti spyware/malware programs. Run through startup and remove anything you do not recognise.

As above and check that mouse / graphics drivers are up to date.

Out of interest, does pushing shifT ctrl alt and tab at the same time bring it back?

Shift control alt tab doesn't bring it back.

Have run macaffee. Shows no issues.

Get Malwarebytes or Spybot on there and give either of those two a whirl.

Also worth having a look on the Lenovo site for updated ultranav drivers, it may well be trying to do something clever and messing up in the process.

Thanks for the help butstill no joy. My cooling fan is speeding up and slowing down in time with the typing/cursor not working!

Boot into safe mode, see if it still happens.

Go through your installed programs and remove anything you dont use, forget the whole "but i might need that one program i used once" thing.
Not used it within 3months, bin it.

Can you access the fan?
Clean it.

Try temporarily disabling the tap to click setting in the touchpad and see if the problem goes away. Mrs stinkwheel whinged like hell about a similar problem and it turns out she keeps brushing the touchpad with ther hand/wrist as she types, making the cursor bounce about all over the place.

If the fan is pulsing in and out ... how hot is the base of the laptop / air coming out of the fan vents?

With it powered off, get a hoover pipe and give any vents you can see a sustained clean .... you'll probably hear the fan get sucked up to hyper speed but that will clear the dust if there is any fouling the fan.

Entirely possible that a blocked fan is causing CPU / GPU to overheat and that's causing display weirdness but equally possible for spyware to be causing the problem.

A good cleanout won't do the laptop any harm.

Do not use CC cleaner!!! Use Malwarebytes ( free edition ) or Spybot S&D 1.6 NOT the V2 one.

I wouldn't be using Mcaffee or Norton as my AV either ..... they're almost as bad as having a virus in the first place Smile

https://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus is one of the better free ones and resource wise, won't strangle the hell out of your machine.

windows mouse and pointer options can disable the hide pointer whilst typing function, as well as enable the show pointer when ctrl key is pressed function, this usually brings the cursor back or at the least helps you locate it.

Some people suggest changing the cursor blink rate to cure the disappearing cursor issue with mixed results.

What annoys me is when windows decides to change focus to whatever the mouse happens to be hovering over whilst typing, for example you click the search box on ebay start typing hit enter to search and the search results are for something completely different.
