It claims to have 32gb of 'eMMC' storage out the box it only shows one drive 21.6gb, with 2.5gb free

How can they sell this shit.

Go to start, run, type mmc

Then add the disk management snap in.


You can now analyse the disk.


Or go in to command prompt
Diskpart
List disk
Select disk 0 Or whatever is the system disk.
List partition

SUppose it depends how much it cost.

I still get a lot of use out of my eeepc 701 and it's only got an 8Gb SSD.

Was only £100 when I bought it 6 or 7 years ago, still runs full XP. Had it on Ubuntu for a while but I use it to administer my action cam footage now. It can't edit it but it's handy for transferring the files off the camera onto a flash drive.

250 is a bit too steep, but the Asus EeeBook is around £160 here and seems to be alright for the money you pay for it. It also has got only 32gb storage, but it also has got a micro sd card slot, so I'd buy a class 10 64gb micro sd card for about £25 and you've got a office work machine with multimedia capabilities for about £185 incl. vat. That's got 13 hours on battery, Windows based OS and no moving parts inside = complete silence.

Even the 2gb RAM seems to be enough, I mean, what is it gonna be used for? Internet browsing, 720p video (1080p via the HDMI), music and office work. I'd also put some emulators on it.

back up the internal storage (disc image etc?) for re installation later then do a clean install.

I'm guessing it will be a flashable image rather than a traditional install on something like this though which you might find available online.

being a hp you can check if it has oem activation in the bios and buy an oem win 8 install dvd to activate of the bios product key or if it has slic 2.1 downgrade to 7 but based on the hardware I doubt it will have proper activation code or even bios access..


You might have a problem finding drivers for these thing designed for cloud storage though, they are based on the same cpu's and chipsets as the intel tablets ,

that hp is basically just a tablet with a few more ports and a keyboard at the end of the day.

I actually looked at a few of these in currys a few weeks ago, the screens are terrible you need to change the text/dpi sizing options to 125% so that you don't need to get right on top of it to read menus.
