Sad Raging.

Tyre fitted less than 150 miles ago, PR3... some piece of wood with a screw in it has been picked up and scratched/gouged around the edge.

Going alps in 2 weeks... have a feeling I'm gunna have to buy a new one Crying or Very sad

Whats the opinion BCF doctors?

Not sure I would want to risk that sort of mileage on that tyre.

Sod's law say's it will let go when you are the furthest point from help....

Second that, I wouldn't risk it on a long trip.

Maybe a get a new one for the trip, then put this back on for local riding where if anything happens you're closer to home and it would be easier / cheaper to recover if anything went south.

Although it's not through to the carcass since it's a cut, as opposed to a part of the tyre moulding, it will probably have weakened the tyre.
It's in a major load bearing area too and all you need is for it to part company with the rest on a bend and it will be 'Cheerio bike tour Hello Mr. Hosping-tal. Sad

Rubber cuts much easier when wet too.

BTW I used tyreleader.co.uk for two sets of tyre for my bikes last month. Cheapest anywhere. (Unless you can get at cost from some cnut.)

Only slight issue is they're German but ship from France. Free Shipping but would be held in some courier's warehouse over the weekend.
But ordered today you'd have them Mon/Tue next week.

Some places can match them £4£ (after fit and bal is factored in) so put it to your tyre fitters.

I'd be tempted to use it the scratches are no deeper than the tread pattern, wont have weakened it enough to worry about.
You could always try to keep it upright through the corners Wink

Having a cut down to the bottom of the tread groove is not the same as having the tyre worn down to the bottom of the tread groove. The tyre's illegal anyway, having a cut of greater than 25mm long and the way that one describes the full circumference I would get it off ASAP, no way I'd do an extended run on it.

My sympathies.

I'm inclined to wonder if, for the sake of inflated sales, the tyre manufacturers/distributors send out -- in a brushed-under-the-carpet kind of way -- memos to general building companies urging them, at all cost, to sweep-out their lorries and vans onto the highway.
Or is your average builder not so stupid as to actually need telling?
It's not uncommon to see builders, chippies, window fixers, et al, strutting their stuff at the side of the road. The question is, do they, at knocking off time, sweep-up sufficiently before they broom-broom off home?
(Personally -- albeit their work indoors -- I know many a sparky and plumber who've never heard of the phenomenon of clearing-up after you --- only joking, lads Wink --- NOT. So by extension arf, it's not unreasonable to presume that those that may work at the side of the road have no idea of their moral duty therefore.)

Or

Are there among society such deranged twunts (like fuckwit, here) with nothing better to do than to go around betimes chucking screws and nails all over the shop, willie-nillie? Twisted Evil

Grrrrrrrrrr...
