Hi All

Passed CBT on Saturday and had a couple of jaunts out on my CG125. I'm completely kitted out in donated gear apart from my helmet.

Looking to get some bargain gear off ebay. Been in my local bike shop and found the size and style of jacket I want although there are loads of different sizes in the label and seems that everyone on ebay is using a different sizing guide.

How the hell am I supposed to know whats on offer?

This label says

Bike wear is like shopping for most clothes. What it says on the label does not always reflect the size. I have a large Spyke textile jacket. It's a smaller fit than my medium one I am replacing. I have a pair of HG hein Gerrike airware which say they are for size 34-36 inch waist and I still cannot get into them even though all my 34 inch trousers are starting to fall off.

Hit and hope or get to a shop, try on what you like and see if you can get cheaper online.

As Pinky says, the sizes on the label seem to mean sweet FA tbh.

I've tried on loads of clothing in bike shops and a medium in one brand may turn out to be larger than another brands large size. Same goes for gloves and boots too.

Try on something you like that fits and then see if you can find it cheaper online. Or if buying new gear, see if the shop will knock some money off, though it may help if you're buying more than one product from them. I prefer to do this if I find a decent bike shop tbh, as it's good to give them (the good ones) business, so they stay open, imo.

Yeah I've been in one shop 2 or 3 times now and bought the odd bits, good to build up a relationship with them for future too. Got a fairly well known locally shop just across the road but heard o few stories about them getting arsey and overcharging so swerving them. Shame really. Handy to have them less than 100yards away.

I used to have an excellent bike shop in the next street until I moved.

Now I have one a five minute walk away that's very big and shiny but, after having some dubious advice from one of their mechanics and labour charges that just made me Laughing

I don't use them.

As above, they may as well just stick a b c in as sizes have nowt to add really.. do what girls do when ordering online, order one of each size and keep the one that fits and send the others back.. check T&C for refunds first though, 2nd hand it is best to just get and as someone said sell on if not right fit.

Just got to a shop and buy your gear there. You will learn your sizes and you can buy your gear online in the future. I brought my first pair of motorcycle boots on ebay. They are still sitting in the garden two years later unused.
