Hey, oil prices you read about are one thing. The price we get to pay is dictated by governments.

Remember, a barrel of oil costs ? $75?

Then you have to transport it to a refinery, refine it to what you want, diesel, petrol, vaseline etc, then transport it to whichever country, then distribute it and sell it on.

Oil and oil products are peanuts. It's government and greens that are making it all expensive.

Blame the Saudi's. They are producing oil at a loss (deliberately - they aim to drive out the higher cost producers like frackers) - they say that they can sustain the low prices for 10 years. Playing the long game.

Its causing havoc up here in The Oil capital, several of my friends are now going to have to sell at least one of their posh cars and possibly a bike or two. Our company is really quiet with only one decompression chamber out and the building of two on hold.

Its nor just OPEC over supplying. There's a world overproduction of oil. Coupled with slowdowns in industrial production. Also advances in production technology allowing previously difficult to extract reserves to be exploited.

I saw a news article yesterday which went along these lines.

Islam says we shouldn't be raping the earth of all of it's stuff. We (Muslims) should dedicate ourselves to reaching 100% renewables.

I can see Saudi doing that ...

They are planning 10 nuclear power stations by 2025 actually. Anecdotally from an oil worker I knew he said the easy oil is fast tapping out. So they are starting to drill the sour crude.

Everyone worries about nuclear weapons but the bigger risk is nuclear power stations. China is currently building sixty of them!

I don't worry about nuclear weapons, nor do I worry about Nuclear Power Stations. We (UK) should have lots of them and should be using it as our sole power source. We don't have earthquakes to rupture reactors or anything. Nuclear should be embraced by all but people are stupid.

Why should we worry about nuclear power stations? Apart from them refining radioactive material to weapons grade.
Germany shut theirs down after the Fukushima disaster, as they're also in critical danger of tsunamis.

Because the country investing most in them cant even store ordinary chemicals safely.

The seaboards of the USA are littered with nuclear power stations, just waiting for a Tsunami.

I would bet on a nuclear accident before a nuclear bomb any day of the week.
