Just how frowned upon is matching gear?

I need some new kit for the bike I should be picking up this weekend. Textiles seem the sensible option as the weather worsens.

Question is, just how bad is it to get kit that matches the bike? A complete no no? Enlighten/swear/laugh at the squid...

If anyone laughs at you for wearing matching kit it says more about them than it does you IMHO.

For practical reasons I would have neutral colours that can be worn with any bike (that pretty much makes it black then ).

Clothing\leathers with bike brand name, bit of a waste if you change bike make.

I know someone who compromised on the bike he wanted just because he already had a pretty new set of expensive Triumph leathers.

He bought a Striple even though he wasn't really comfortable with it when he test rode it.

not overly bothered but i never have got matching leathers etc.

If i'm honest it looks a little sad to have same colour or make of leathers etc to the bike, like a porche driver wearing his porche jacket

If it's just matching colours, then it looks fine. But if it's textiles, you'll be wanting black anyway. Everything will turn out black in the end

If it's matching brand, then I think it looks utterly shit. It's like the "full adventure GS" guys riding 3 miles to work in Central London with a full set of pristine BMW gear.

It's like driving an Audi in an Audi baseball cap. Just don't be that guy

That's my point. I don't want to look like a monumental bell. Part of the fun of biking is the respect you get as you nod past other riders.

I have a Ducats baseball cap and a Ducati helmet cover courtesy of the
Qatar MotoGT 2015.

I wear the Ducati baseball cap when on camping trips, my mates tell me I look like a wazzock and a wannabe.

Can't understand that, is it because I ride Honda and my helmet is a Nolan?

If you have to ask. Then I'd say don't match.

If you don't give a stuff what others think. Then wear what you want, but then you wouldn't be asking.

Buy what fits you best, has good armour (or stuff you can pull out and upgrade yourself) and above all is comfortable when you sit on a bike.

I have Alpinestars leathers because they are the only suits that fit me right off the peg, I wish that they had a little less white on them as its getting grubby but I can live with that as I don't have to look at myself when I'm on the bike. I'm comfy, I couldn't give a monkeys if I match my bike or clash with it.

I like matching gear. My last bike was red and I kitted myself out in red/black, trouble is my new bike is yellow. Therefore I've sold some old gear, got new stuff and have a more neutral colour now.

Just do what you want and can afford. You really think someone wouldn't nod because you have a blue bike and blue on your jacket?

I buy everything black because if it's not black, it'll end up a dirty grey after a motorway trip in the rain. Life is too short to be trying to keep brightly coloured textiles sparkly all the time.
