Hi All

I'm wanting to do a full A licence soon and will be getting rid of my run around car once passed and commute on bike as well as riding for fun.

I passed my theory test last week and looking to do my CBT.

I'm after some reviews on training schools in Birmingham. I am aware of 2 wheels training in Saltley and RMT training in Tysley, both are close by but not many reviews online. Anyone had any experience?

There is also David Brown Motorcycle Training in Coleshill, which is round the corner from where I work so that is easy to get to.


Any advice/recommendations will be much appreciated.

Any advice on buying a big bike under £1k?

Top circle is where their located and the bottom is the space they use to do the CBT off road elements.

The on the road part route takes you onto the coventry road, down the small heath highway, left at the first roundabout and then in a giant loop past the area in the bottom circle and round a few other roads. Takes not very long at all to do a complete circuit. Just make sure you don't set off the 30mph camera outside the bottom circle and it really is an easy route. There are other various routes and roads they take you on but the above is one of the ones that I did. They don't venture far outside the local areas so really their isn't anything to worry about.

I've gone all the way from my CBT to recently attempting the Module 2 (a2) with them. Really couldn't recommended them enough for the full license training.

You planning on doing A2 / A or do you mean 125cc?

Thanks for the recommendation.

They do their off road training in the train museum car park then?

I am planning on doing the A licence, once I have done the CBT but not really ridden a motorcycle properly at all.

Did you have experience on your own bike or was their training enough to pass? How did your Mod 2 go?

Yeah. It's secure and with gated security code access only. They have a dedicated part of the car park that they use away from all the other cars. Of all the times I've been on that car park there's never been any cars coming in or leaving so no worries about working around other people.

Nor did I when doing the CBT, I hadn't even touched a motorbike before let alone be trusted to sit and ride one. They have either a Yamaha 125 cruiser or Yamaha 125 YBR for their training. Not sure if they actually use the YBR for CBT's.

Make sure you have your own gear otherwise they put you in multi coloured hiviz overalls. Personal preference and all, even if you don't have any gear at all they have the complete set. Just don't turn up in shorts and a t-shirt and you'll be fine.

Having a good road ride on the CBT will lessen the amount of DAS training you'll need and save you a few pennies in the long run. Although I've found them accurate in the training that they recommended.

As above non for the CBT. I then went out and got a bike and have about 7-8 months before commiting to DAS. Ended up doing 2 1/2 days.

I failed my Module 2 based on missing a "no entry" sign apart from that ended up with four minors. The no entry was a serious fault. Rider error and no reflection on the company at all. They allowed me to book another test without more training as they could see how far I'd come and just put it down as a simple mistake.

They have a Suzuki Gladius for the A license with different seat options.

That sounds good. I am assuming that the bikes will already be there, or do they make you ride to there?
I will see if I can try and book some holiday off work next week but
coming up to end of month highly unlikely.

I have not got any bike gear yet, was planning on going in some jeans and a sturdy jacket as recommended on some websites.
Any decent places to try gear on?

where is the test centre for the mod 1 & 2 tests?

Solo Mct would be my suggestion, I'm currently doing my A licence with them and can't fault them. Mod 2 on monday, they've done a great job getting me ready.

They have a school in brum and one in Walsall. For a Stourbridge resident it would probably be cheaper going to the Birmingham one but I started at the Walsall location so carried on there.

You meet them in the morning at their location and they ride over with the bikes in a van and you in the front, unload the bikes and the morning commences.

Lunch about midday and then for the road ride.

I've seen that they have gloves and helmets.

Jacket, boots and trousers I don't think so, if you have even a budget pair of each of those then you're sorted. And if it's raining and your gear isn't waterproof they put you in the hiviz overcoat things.

J&S on the outskirts of town is the only place that I have ever been. I'd take someone with you, either a biker or not generally just so that the people working in the shop leave you alone a little bit more. Every time I walk in and shop around on my own they stare at me like a hawk and follow me around fishing for a sale, last time I went in I walked out because I found it far to annoying.

Just don't announce that you're looking for your first set of gear and tell them your just looking and getting ideas then you'll be fine.

Garrets green.

Test routes on the Module 2 vary and are decided by the DSA Examiner. During the training the school take you on possible test routes but ride safe and forward plan well and you can theoretically ride and road regardless of if you've been on it before or not.
