Death by careless - minimum 12 month ban. Possible custodial, although My guess is a ban, 9 points and £1000 fine. (Hopefully more for pleading not-guilty though...)

We mustn't forget to add the £2.50 as a gesture to the family for their suffering ...

"The 41-year old officer has been on trial all this week and denied the charge of careless driving."

Liar liar.

I'd love to hear her defence. How does she consider U-turning across the path of a bike to not be careless?

The result: Blakeborough was sentenced to complete 180 hours of unpaid work, banned from driving for a year and must pay £2,800 in costs.

Blakeborough, who denied the charge, wept in the dock after the unanimous verdict was announced.

Tears for herself because her BS wasn't believed. I wonder if she shed any for Scott Gibson.

"I pulled my van forwards while turning the wheel to the right to angle my vehicle out to the right slightly.

"Once I have done that, I was looking in my driver's wing mirror and came to a complete stop," she told the jury.

Blakeborough was adamant she checked carefully in both directions of the road before starting the U-turn.

"He wasn't there," she said of Mr Gibson.

"When there was the bang I just thought something had fallen off the van. That was my initial reaction."

Blakeborough was questioned under cross-examination by Mr Jeremy Grout-Smith, prosecuting.

He asked about the wisdom of the U-turn.

But the officer replied: "I always look carefully at every road with every move I make.

"There was nothing there. There were no headlights."

A disgusting, yet unsurprising outcome.

How can she state that there was nothing there, when there very clearly was? When what actually happened was that she obviously didn't look properly.

What's the odds on her being put on scammera duty while she serves her ban and that she'll see every single motorbike then. Evil or Very Mad

What was she actually done for?

Death by dangerous or death by careless?

I think she'd loose her job for the former but not the latter?

It's always an emotive subject this one; the search for 'justice' in these sorts of cases

I'm not of course absolutely convinced of her motives but I reckon I could nail on the fact that she didn't go out the house that morning aiming to kill someone. She just made a mistake. It's a mistake with massive consequences yes but it's no more than that. There is the responsibility of driving these days. I don't believe in god but the saying but for the grace of god rings in my ears on these sorts of incidents.

Anyone that has had a crash could critique the incident and see how with a slightly different set of circumstances it could have worked out a whole bunch worse. I'd challenge anyone to say they've not had a near miss in their lives where their standard of driving or riding fell short of proper but they got away with it on the day.

She may well be scum - she may not. She's probably someone's mum that just made a mistake behind the wheel that cost someone their life. A second's worth of wrong doing that'll cost her the rest of her life.

Fucked that I'd be that judgemental on such little fact TBH and but for the grace of god it never happens to be me sat in that dock with my life crumbling away either.

Insightful comments arry and it's true, human physiology does mean she may genuinely have not seen the bike, even if she had looked. I've come close to taking out a biker a couple of times through not seeing them. Most recently in rental a VW golf minivan which has the most rediculously wide A-pillars I've seen. Luckily I DID look twice...

However. The not guilty plea instead of guilty with mitigation lessens my sympathy somewhat.

They'll have had sight of the prosecution evidence which will have included detailed professional oppinions of the position and speed of both vehicles in the run up to the crash yet still continued to deny DWDC. A jury of their peers when presented with the same evidence unanimously decided she was guilty.

Always a shame for the family of the dead guy to see something like this dragged out into a jury trial.

It's the fact that:

"Blakeborough denied a charge of causing Mr Gibson's death by careless driving" (and has been on trial this week at Carlisle Crown Court.")

And unanimously found guilty by the jury, had she come clean and admitted carelessness then my opinion of her would be different, she tried to get off with it, and on the whole she was let off leniently.

Let's not forget a man died because of her actions, nor forget the suffering of his family and loved ones.
