Pretty shit how there's fields all around, but it comes down in one of the worst places possible. Then again I'm sick of hearing how people have "miracle escapes", this just proves it's all down to chance.

There's no such a thing as luck, miracles and other stuff. All that is just a result of a choice. A choice we make, or a choice others make that affects us. The whole choice thing could be also associated with probability, to a certain extent.

Modern ones are capable of putting the pilot safely under his chute from off the deck. I doubt a 50's jobby was/is that good. I suspect the pilot might have thought twice about bailing out and trying to save his skin when he saw where his plane was going to park too.
