Tower Bridge was raised and the first old fart, me, was joining the back of the queue. I didn't want to sit behind the cars so I passed a keep left arrow on the wrong side, like you do. I had to nip in sharpish to do it because the scooter behind me was already positioned to do the same thing.

Next thing you know there's shouting behind us. "THAT'S FOUR POINTS IF A CAMERA SEES YOU!" Cue the second old fart, in a yellow vest of course. Then he noticed that my number plate was, um, obscured. The shouting got louder. There were explosions going on in his helmet. Something about me encouraging the young guy on a scooter to endanger his licence, presumably by leading him into the law-breaking (even though the scooter guy had thought of it first, probably because he does it every day.) "I'VE BEEN RIDING A BIKE FOR 34 YEARS AND INSTRUCTOR FOR 21 YEARS." I was about to butt in with something to the effect that I've been riding a bike for longer than you and I break an average of 1 traffic law per 400 yards. But I just ignored him and went to the head of the queue, leaving the scooterist to benefit from some free instruction.

OK, it was rush hour and it was 80 degrees, trying conditions for someone whose raison d'etre has been getting London bikers to stick to the rules for 21 years. Whoever you are, I hope you got home without having a stroke.

I am considering ratcheting up my provocation of such people by putting an IAM sticker on my top box. But I've heard that if you get pulled over, the sticker makes it more likely that you get a penalty rather than a telling off.

I could also attach a sticker which a cartoonist friend made for me - it says "How's My Riding? Not That I Give A Fuck." He gave it to me for my birthday at least 10 years ago but I've never had the balls to display it.

I believe the temperature today is sending many a person over the edge. It's nearly midnight and still 21 degrees outside. It's even hotter inside Sad

This was the correct procedure

I would have said "Hush your beak, grandad" and sashayed off to the front as well.

Whether you get points is none of his business.

The scooterist has the same decision to make as you. If he stayed for the lecture, that's his problem Laughing

I think I would have replied that he is committing an offence under section 4A of the Public Order Act.

I remember one of the events leading up to my time in court being sued for trespass by a wealthy Hertfordshire farmer.

"You shouldn't be riding through here, didn't you see the sign on the gate saying 'No Vehicles'.

"I ignored that, it didn't conform to the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 so I assumed it was just a bluff by someone trying to discourage people from accessing a legal road."

"But it was laminated!"

STILL NOT MADE IT AS A TRAFFIC COPPER THOUGH?

Deputy Road Sheriffs should be made to wear a big silver star. Then we should gas them. </Godwinned>

Must be a southern thing.

Up here cars move to the left to let you go past.

Sometimes it's annoying because you're not in a rush and are happy to plod along, but because they pull over you feel you have to.

You always thank them though. Unwritten rule up here.

An interesting point. As a paddy cockney wankaah, I see the blockage 'carry on'. And yet when I get the 'move a bit to the left to let you through' cobblers, I sometimes feel it makes me obliged.. I cannot be arsed now, however. Since I am obliged to wear rubber tread on my tank, I just cannot be arsed.

With regards to thanks, no bugger even says hallo down 'ere!

Re; TB, You/we are stuck behind a fuckoff bridge. You/we will be stuck behind traffic. All the power rangers will be stuck behind the next traffic light. Chillz. Thumbs Up

BTW C-dug is Tower Bridge rant man=5 ponds. Thumbs Up

As it goes despite being a reasonably.... efficient.... filterer, I very very rarely go the wrong way around keep left type road furnishings.

I'm more the live and let live type than the shouty stressed out heading for a stroke type of person described by the OP though.

Found a lot less cars move in West Yorks - mostly they seem confused by the concept of a bike filtering. Not sure if they're just generally confused, or by the filtering bit Razz.

Scotland does seem pretty good, at least on open roads for car driver's having noticed you in advance and doing something about it.

So I had to look up admonishing - for a hopeful moment I thought it was a thread about some disgusting public sex act.

Even the ever reliable 'Urban Dictionary' doesn't contain an alternative meaning for admonish Sad I'm sure someone on BCF will submit a suggestion soon and the whole post will mean something VERY different....
