Essentially the title. I once more find myself calling upon the assembled ranks of the most eclectic mix of anonymous strangers I have access to for life advice. God help me. Laughing

At the pub on Saturday, I got talking to a bloke about 10 years older than me, he offered to buy me a drink, fine. We were talking about all and sundry for a good couple of hours, really getting on with the guy.

I start talking about 4x4's, he says he has a 4x4 would I like some company when I go mudding? I said that would be cool, gave him my number. I had been talking to this guy for about an hour and it still hadn't dawned on me. Laughing

I did notice he kept invading my personal space and making me generally uncomfortable, I'd imagine some girls feel like this when a guy doesn't get the hint. Rolling Eyes I just assumed he was drunk and didn't realise he was making me uneasy.

I, however, am too polite to tell him to stop it and just allowed it to happen, my mates are laughing at this point because they've twigged what's going on. It wasn't until he kept touching my legs and arms and then asked to try my jacket on I'd realised what had happened.

I'd accidentally pulled a gay. Shocked

I however think I was giving out the wrong impression, because I was wearing nail varnish again, don't ask. And I had put "Gay Bar" on on the jukebox. I'd also given him a hug earlier before I cottoned on when he was asking about the scar on my face and how it had happened. Laughing

So after about two hours in his company, and narrowly escaping, I realised I had told him my name, where I work, my number, my interests and general location of house, while I knew nothing but his first name. Embarassed

So, now this guy keeps phoning me, leaving texts and such asking to meet up. He even left a message on the answer phone asking me to go down the pub again, because he had such a great time last time and would really like to see me again, he listened to it at work today, and it was overheard by a colleague. His remark was that it sounds like when you're young and you fancy someone and want to ask them out stealthily. He said this without knowing the story behind it. Shocked

He seemed like a nice guy, but he's hassling me and I fear I may have given off the wrong impression. I need to get him to leave me alone, but I don't want him to get upset. I also don't want to tell him I'm not gay, only to find out he isn't either.

What shall I do, thus far I've just been ignoring him but it seems like a daft thing to do long term.

Christ, that sounds so much like something a prepubescent girl wrote, it's embarrassing.

Go out in your Land Rovers and talk a lot about your wife/girlfriend, even if you have to invent one.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, did he come across as queer? It's normally pretty obvious, if so tell him it's not your cup of tea. Good luck son

I read the title, read this and then stopped reading. Never this.

A random guy buys you a drink. What? That's when I'd go "nah, you're alright fella..". Laughing .

But anyway. There are times in life you need to tell people to fuck off. This is one of them.

As the official BCF homosexual, I must first thank you for not completely freaking out and going all homophobic with the "omgz I'm gonna catch teh aidz" type comments.

Secondly, this happens surprisingly often to gay guys these days. As the educated and well adjusted majority of society tend not to bat a fake eyelash at gays these days, it becomes harder for the rainbow fraternity to distinguish between who is simply just a polite gentleman who can continue a conversation, and who is genuinely interested in furthering the social contact. The solution is thus:

"Hi [insert name], thanks for the offer of drinks at the pub, I'll be there around [insert time]"

Followed by the following over a pint/half/cocktail

"I'd just like to clear something up before we start, you are a [insert compliment] bloke, and I'd hate for you to get the wrong impression of me, but I'm straight. Sorry. With that said, there's nothing in the world that says we still can't enjoy a decent chat over a drink, and possibly meet up for a ride/drive every once in a while."

(The astute among you will notice that it's the general "shit sandwich" approach to breaking bad news)

Problem solved. If he's the genuine and thoughtful gent you make him sound like then he'll be slightly irked by his mistake, apologise, offer to buy you a drink as an apology and then carry on where he left off with the lines definitively drawn in the sand.

HTH Thumbs Up Mr. Green

If it's any help I was in a night club about a month ago, when my FWB went off to the ladies. There was three guys at the bar next to me in their early 20's, and two of them starting chatting to me straightaway, and asking me how many times a week I go up the gym to stay in shape, and what training I do etc.

I havn't been to a gym for over 2years and look about as strong as a light breeze. It was only when she came back and they all moved away I realised what had been going on. My radar is not so good after 3pints and a few vodka shots! Laughing

Does that make me the Dowager Duchess?

Fladdem you silly boy, just man up and tell him you didn't realise you were gay until you looked into his eyes.......and saw your own soul.
