Anyone have experience with these? Just stumbled upon it on Amazon which is temptingly half price. I'm on 3 points with another year to go until I'm clear of the 6 point ban so forking out sounds sensible.

What does it do? does it sense the rays coming from the cameras?/sensors?
How does it know there are cameras around?

Or? is it some sort of GPS thingy with the locations of fixed cameras?

Not speeding would be sensible.

So you obey all speed limits at all times?

You don't have to appear so hostile. lihp's advice is fair and reasonable considering it's one more strike and you're out. Whether he speeds or not is irrelevant, in your case, you should try to avoid speeding.

He's not 1 speeding fine away from losing his licence.

1. Follow his advice
2. Do it for at least a year (or until your current points fall off)
3. ...
4. Profit

I have 0 points over 12 years, I never managed to get 3 points within 12 months of getting a license too.

If you get caught speeding, your observations aren't good enough to be speeding.

It's reasonable to suggest sticking rigidly to all speed limits at all times?

These are not reasonable people.

I'd stay well away from them.

actually garmin is of some use ... obviously it cannot pinpoint the exact location of the mobile scamera van but it will warn you when you enter an area where they operate .. gives an audible warning if you creep over the limit and a visual display of the speed limit your in.. again though not infallible and good observations are a must..
as is local knowledge.

It would be reasonable to suggest to somebody who has been caught speeding twice (I assume he took speed awareness course first time, and got 3 points the 2nd time) in 12 months, and only 5mph or so away from being a learner again, stays at/under the limit.

And lets be honest, if you're going to speed, but can't see big yellow boxes. Then you're doing something wrong.

You stated the obvious which didn't actually any purpose other than antagonizing me.

I'm painfully aware that I shouldn't speed, for more reasons than just losing my license.

When I got my SP30 (34 in a 30) I had only been riding a very short while with CBT level training. Since then I've been trained, licensed and taught responsibility (by my own hand).

However we all make mistakes, can you really fault me for wanting an extra safety net?

Ooooooh you quoting out of context. Include "... considering it's one more strike and you're out" then it makes my response less of a nanny think of the children type.

A safety net is generally the precaution for if a harness breaks.

In this case, the best thing, you have to agree, is to not speed OR be very vigilant when you do bust that limit so you can avoid the fine. If you have a screen that gives a pop up, what if you don't see it? Will you want another screen to tell you to check a screen and so on?

I'm not commenting from a self-righteous think of the kittens. I have had a driving ban before. If you need to use a device to look out for big yellow boxes, are your observations up to scratch?

I was caught once, was never offered a speed awareness course.

I was following my mate at the time (on a newly acquired 125, him on an R1) on roads I didn't know. I was trying to keep up, he was probably trying to impress me and we both got snapped. Don't worry its one of the many things that keep me from sleeping.

What are you trying to achieve.. I've already agreed that not speeding is a sensible option, which shouldn't even need to be said.

I'm not trying achieve anything other than recommending that your own senses should be relied on rather than the aid. Imagine. You get flashed by a camera or van not on its list. Would it still be a safety net?

Then why are you commenting? Any pleb knows that speeding is a risk and I've made it quite clear that I'm aware of that. You seem to be suggesting humans are infallible.. If that's the case then I see no point in continuing this conversation Brick Wall

Your observations are so poor that you're unable to see yellow boxes, and lines painted on a floor. That you need an electronic device, to tell you that it's there?
