Which bike to purchase on my license

hello I am a newbie this forum

I passed my CBT today, however on my license it has a picture of AM and A with end date 10.04.46
but nothing on A1 or A2
what does this mean? The reason I am asking is I believe on a CBT I can ride up to 125cc?
Also what is the highest/power motorbike/moped I can purchase on my driving license
Sorry totally new to this bike malarkey but wish to ride a bike.
I am 49 years of age.
I have attached a picture the back of my driving license.

This gets asked all the time, essentially it means you can only ride trikes as you haven't passed your bike test but have done your car test.

In the last column there's usually the code 79(3) which if you lookup on this site (https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-codes), it says you are "restricted to tricycles".

So no more looking at fireblades and get back to the 125cc search, alternatively do DAS (I suggest the latter)

Get the cheapest 2nd hand 125 that runs and has an MOT you can find. Ride fuck out of it. Fall over in a car park/petrol station/etc a few times. Take instruction and tests for Cat A. Sell 125 for about what you paid for it. Buy whatever floats your boat and fits your budget.

What is DAS?
I am looking at Online insurance but do not know which one to choose for license type:
UK full bike
UK full moped
UK Full car
UK provisional moped

then above with EU ... eg.
EU full bike

Reading posts on here should put people off chinese bikes. You shouldn't need an opinion to state the obvious. Don't touch fire, don't buy chinese bikes. Have you ever liked a battery. Would you do it daily. If no then don't but chinese. It's like that but worse.

I've had a few chinky bikes and they are inferior to jap. Always will be

I feel that I am still responsible for this thread and slightly concerned about some of the language. Swearing could be fine if it emphasises a point but I don't personally have a liking for it.

In today's society, humans have become better at understanding racial offence. The word "chinky" I feel borders racism.

I will not be purchasing a Chinese scooter/bike as it makes sense due to some quality issues, thank you for the advice.

My brother had a chinese bike (a "Better" 125 cruiser thing) and he was very happy with it. It did fall apart and rust into dust within two years and had some pretty dangerous manufacturing issues but he loved it anyway.


Still some of the best memories I have on two wheels are thrashing a ropey Fox Eye NSR125 around on L-Plates.*

Cheap, good handling, baby super bike looks, comfy, easy to work on (which is handy if it seizes up) and two-stroke angry garden strimmer soundtrack, loved it.

I only did my DAS in the end because the NSR had such a poor turning circle that it was a real struggle to fit a u-turn within the space needed for Mod1, and I figured if I was going to have to hire a school bike to take the tests anyway it might as well be a 500. If it wasn't for that I'd probably still be riding that tired little Honda.




* I didn't realise until I was preparing to sell it that it was an Italian import and de-restricted, which explains why it was so much faster than the my previous BN125, which I thought was just slow because it was knackered...

No idea but I wouldn't touch one with an extremely long barge pole.

Why? Because the Chinese have yet to think about quality properly and there are far superior second hand Japanese bikes at a lower price.

As I have said, some Chinese bikes-occasionally-are fine. It doesn't depend on the make or model-although there are some better ones-but I'd say you got lucky.

Japanese bikes, on the other hand, are consistently made. Which Chinese bikes ain't.

I've been to China and have been "lucky" to see how they are made-hand wound electrics coming in from farmers in the provinces trying to earn a few extra bucks, for example.

You've obviously found a good, individual bike.
