Mod 2 advice

Hi, got my mod 2 tomorrow so im just wondering if you guys can give me some advice that can help me pass. Ill be doing my mod 2 in Atherton and ive never been round there before so are there any surprises? ;p

My instructor said I need to look out for bus lanes because if its out of hours im expected to use them and if I don't use them ill fail, is that true? Also when coming off a roundabout what shoulder checks if any are the examiners looking for? My instructor asked me why I look over my shoulders on certain exits/corners and said its a waste of time.

I wouldn't worry to much about not knowing the roads or the route that you'll be riding along as this just ensures that your on edge and are constantly alert possible more so than a road you may take every day on the way to work etc. Advice for riding in unknown route / roads would be slow it down, look further ahead and react to all road signs. On the flip side it is important that you stay at a safe constant speed and that you don't appear hesitant or out of control of the bike at any time.

To relax your ride on the whole when you approach a give way junction just stop as close to the kerb (if your turning left) or to the middle line (if turning right) and take a second to catch your breath before you continue on your way, scan the road your going onto and look out for car parked on the side of the road any traffic lights etc. My examiner said I stopped to often for his liking but to me it was far safer than attempting to slow control, look both ways and then make a decision at the last moment. In reality it was also a tactic I used to slow down the test and do it at my own pace, the quicker you move the more roads he may take you down.. a balanced tactic.

On the whole the best way to treat it is that you have a satnav talking to you in your ear giving you instructions and directions. Ride for yourself and do what you've been throughout your DAS and on the roads on your own and you'll be fine.

Oh and here's the safety questions answers just in case you need to revise them. Examiner only usually asks about 3-4.

Oh and here's the Riding test report. Ignore everything up until page 6 then read 1a and 1b and then ignore all others up until number 10, read 10-28 and that should give you a good understanding of how to pass.

Oh and here's a line form what the examiner told me before the test "listen to everything I tell you and take the exits I ask and you'll be fine"

i passed my mod 2 just over a week ago, i can't help with any surprises to you local area.

I can tell you that if a bus lane is open to you to use then you should indeed use it, the highway code states something about always using the left hand lane unless overtaking, turning right or otherwise indicated.

As for roundabouts watch this and this, this and this.

Also ask your instructor where and when you should be looking, you are after all paying him to instruct you, it's your time and money make the most of it!

Not a good one unfortunately, got caught over the limit as I didn't see any signs. It pisses me off how expensive it is and how long you have to wait to do it again
