I have a Derbi Senda Xtreme 50, 2008 plate. Recently purchased this bike as a little project but I'm a little stumped when it comes to the spark. the issue I'm having is once the yellow wire is connected to the CDI (colours go from left to right, yellow, green, red and white), it no longer sparks. Yellow wire disconnected, sparks regardless of the ignition barrel. I also noticed it had a random yellow wire near the ignition barrel but I'm unable to figure out what that is yet.

From what I've seen, my ignition barrel has 4 wires, an the older version (up too 03) use 6, which includes a yellow wire. I'm sure it's something stupid but I've ran out of ideas.

Ive got the same bike an previous owners have mixed and matched parts from diffrent years so ive had constant electrical problems, if i was you i would check if it has the right ignition barrel, cdi/coil and stator then go from there, hope this helps.

Without wanting to go into great detail on a public forum, ignition switches often work by interrupting the spark, not by completing the circuit. This is why the traditional way for scum to nick a vehicle is to rip all of the wires out of the ignition barrel and then bump start it.

Your problem is more likely to be with the ignition switch than the CDI.

Yeah I have been tempted to order the older ignition barrel. From the research I've found, the CDI and ducati stator are correct. The plug in for the ignition has 3 pins and one solo. The older ignition has 6 pins and 2 solo so I'm a bit stumped. He claimed everything worked before it was sat and partly stripped. I wasn't sure if it was like the piaggo zip mopeds, if you unplug the 2stroke tank it'll refuse to start.

Really? That's good to know! Ill defiantly look into it, still doesn't explain why it sparks with the ignition of yet the electrics function fine when the key is turned on.. Unless when under compression it doesn't give a good enough spark to start?

Okay cool, I'll have to give something a go. From the diagram and with the yellow wiring out, everything seems the same. I'll just have to keep doing a trail an error lol
