Yesterday , one of them days , knew I should have left my bike....
been getting one tappet , tapping when Idling after a few seconds so I decied to go in and have a look..

Just adjusted a few, last one before I was putting the cover back on and over tightened it Mad
What an arse , anyway I went to the Suzuki dealership to order some , they have the screw bits in there warehouse GB but no nuts , they have to come from Gremany..

So I have to wait till next week , gutted , you would think being a common bike and I am sure I am not the first one to over tighten a tappet screw , there would have lots of them..

I did find a shop oline but they was sold out of nuts , But anyway I am thinking I might replace them all now so I am thinking of going back to the dealership after lunch and ordering them all..

Anyway don,t touch your bike when your having a bad hair day Mr. Green

Never heard of anyone stripping a tappet locknut before. They are usually high-quality screws and nuts.

I had to order some replacement screws for a bandit a few years ago, ordered it from suzuki directly and it took like two weeks? to arrive. It's a bit of an embarrassment in this day and age in my opinion. Any modern warehouse should be able to receive orders, pick parts and dispatch within a matter of hours, and shipping should take no longer than a couple of days.

It's such a pain in the tits waiting for such trivial things.

Your telling me , I was so mad with myself yesterday but there is no point in getting upset about it , its just one of them things..
I even used a small spanner so I would not do that..

Yeah you would think warehouse Suzuki GB would have lots of them but noooooooo , they said they might get the screw bits today but the nuts next Tuse Weds....

Wow, NKVD fan gives you an easy ride, and you get stroppy... I can see bad things happening in this thread.

I too am skeptical about the possibility of stripping the thread on a coarse threaded Suzuki locknut... but stranger things have happened I guess... I assume the nut was trashed but the actual tappet adjuster thread was OK?

Why couldn't you get one from Screwfix or something? From images on Google, they just look like standard nuts...

Err, because they are hardened, and if one were to fail you'd lunch your engine?

No Marjay , it must be how you are reading my post , its a bit of light banter with NKVD thats all nothing more..

I think they have both had it Marjay because I can not put the nut on the fresh bit of thread at the bottom of the tappet..
And when I look at the nut thread it does not look to good.
So not worth the risk putting it back on ,, I might as well put one on from screwfix Shocked

Buy hardened ones then? Surely a Grade 8 nut would be more than enough? I just don't get why you need to use the special expensive, hard-to-source Suzuki ones that look exactly like normal nuts...

Look at it this way. The thread on that nut and adjuster may have been severely weakened in the past and may have been at the point of failure. By finally stripping them, you may have saved your bike from some very expensive damage. Thumbs Up

Here's a bag of 100 nuts.
I don't know what size it is, just guessed at M6. You'll have a hard time stripping 316 stainless.

Two points:

A friend recently described banter as group bullying...

NKVD doesn't tend to 'do' *light* banter...

Tappet nuts are usually nothing special, just 'normal' quality items and what's more they don't need winding down to some enormous pressure. My old 250RS Honda gets 'finger-tight'plus one third of a turn or less.....no problems for the last 13 years and it gets thrashed to death.

From what I remember when doing the clearances on my brother's GSXR1100J engine, the thread is a fine pitch.A course thread would make setting the clearances not easy at all Evil or Very Mad
