Ducati Monster, which fuel injected model in the £3K range?

I'm getting interested in a V Twin and the Ducati Monster looks interesting. What's good what's not etc?

If I was getting a Monster it'd be the S2R1000.

I've ridden the 800 and it's a bit slow. The 1000 has better suspension, brakes etc. too.

I was thinking the 800 but then looked at some ads for the 1000 and its not out of reach on a modest budget.

Is it to be your only bike, and for everyday use? If so, my current thought is to avoid Italian like the plague. But I'll also say this: I have never owned any Italian bikes, but still keep hearing that they have all kinds of electrical reliability problems, especially when compared to most Jap bikes (Honda reg/rects of a certain era excepted). But I've deliberately chosen to stir this up here, cos I may well be out of touch now, and would like to know THE TRUTH!! Which may also be of some use to the OP Smile

I've had a couple of Ducati's now.

I'd say the datatool alarm is far more of a PIA than the italian electrics...

I've just had a Ducati Monster 1200 on a 15 plate for a couple of days whilst my bike was in for a service.

Got to say, it was awful. The throttle had so much slop in it, I wondered whether I would take off at sets of lights. You'd give it a handful and nothing happened.

Also, the down gearing was terrible in 1st and 2nd gear. Coming from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st, it felt like there was massive lag in the engine. You'd hit down the gear and there was literally a 1 solid second before the engine re-engaged.

Quite pokey when you get above 30mph but I wouldn't buy one personally.

Have you ridden one?

The only V Twin I've ridden is an SV650. Did you tell the dealer about the 1200? Sounds like it was a duff one?
