ACF-50 uses

Morning Chaps and Chapesses,

I have been advised to get some ACF-50 for my SV650 naked and douse the whole bike in it.
Washing the bike with cold water once the ACf is dried.

Surely there are parts of the bike you should NOT put ACF on...I'm thinking anything brake like...but there is probably more I should avoid.

any help would be appreciated.

Does this stuff work as well as they say?

Not sure why you need to wash in cold water once the acf is on.

Apply a thin coat on all but the brakes. I tend to give mine a deep clean and coat everything before and after winter. Cleans in between are just wipe downs with acf reapplied on exposed areas.

The bottle is better value than the spray can and it will last you ages (you really only need a thin coat).

Litre bottle from Nippy Normans was cheapest when I bought it last time. It came with a sprayer which is ace for application. As above wash or pressure wash everything. Allow to dry and spray all. It's best to remove all fairings to get everywhere. As it's not cheap it helps to use a tiny bit of rag to soak up precious over spray and spread thet around.

I find their supplied squirt bottle makes a jet rather than fine spray.
Sometimes you want that but often it's better to put some in a trigger sprayer like you get for kitchen cleaner. You can take the internal pipe off and use it upside down.
But more economical on a bike to damp a cloth with it and wipe on more accessible areas.

Liberal use of ACF50 prevents toes from going rusty.

I have also seen it aqpplied so thickly on a Harley Sportster that the thing was unrecognisable. So it can be used to disguise you bike, if you are embarassed by it.

Buy bottle, apply with a brush everywhere metal except the brake discs. It'll burn off the headers, I'm not sure whether it's worthwhile doing them.

I would go as far to say it's a must, if you keep your bike out doors and/or ride all year round and yes, it certainly does work.

I lived by the sea, kept the bike outside and rode it daily all year round. One day I noticed the forks started to develop some surface rust I cleaned it off, applied a coat of ACF 50 all over the bike (except brakes and tyres obviously) and over two years later there's not a spot of rust anywhere on the bike. Just apply it once in autumn and wash the bike in spring. Even if the bike gets filthy, the ACF 50 acts as a barrier, so all the crud sticks to it rather than the bike.

You will/may struggle to get into the nooks and crannies with a rag/brush that is why the spray bottle works fine. You spray it as a fine mist and it creeps into stuff by capillary action.
