GSXR 1000 K5/6 compared to other 1000's

You often hear on BCF, GSXR related FB pages and from people you speak to that the K5/6 is the best GSXR ever made to date, but how does it compare to other 1000 supersport's?

I'm guessing it's still not the best in its class with Panigales & S1000's about now (or maybe I'm wrong?) or is it just the best 1000 for the money? Or is it the best 1000 of its era?

Interested to know as it's so highly rated... Is there really no better thou' super sport out there in your opinion? Or is it that it's the best thou' for the price bracket they sit in?

I had one but sold it.......and now I want another one.Great raw bikes,no high tech gizmo's just a pure riding experience,you are in charge not the electronics.
They weigh 175kg and have nearly as much horsepower,acceleration is something to behold and the handling is awesome.
For a sports bike they are quite comfortable over fairly long distances and with a good jockey they will keep up with anything that is available.
I'm going now before I start crying over the memories.

I thought it was far better than the 05 Fireblade that I rode. I've not ridden the Kawasaki equivalent but have heard the 04/05 one is mental.

Currently looking for a k5/6... so yes I'd like one of my own.

The K5 gixxer is a great road bike. It's soft and flexible enough that the roads don't unsettle it. People make this massive deal about it being heavy on the midrange but it's not really, the K7-9 was just more 'peaky' so it felt flatter in the middle in comparison.

Slightly relaxed riding position compared to a normal litre sports bike, so they're fairly comfortable for long distances (by sportsbikes standards). I do mean slightly, the lesser amount of forward lean is down to the seat being quite low on them.

Both the GSXR 05-06 and ZX10R 04-05 are in a different league to the blade and R1 of the same years, simply cannot be compared.

The GSXR feels like a sports bike designed for the road, I think its reputation is slightly overstated. Sure, great bikes. On the road, it'll keep up with anything, even the newest superbikes. Compared to the ZX10R it felt good, but not as exciting. If you want a fast, good handling, reliable bike, by all means get the GSXR. If you want to do fast riding and don't mind a bit of an eye-opening experience, get the ZX10R instead.

When you bring price into it, the GSXR is the worst value. 05 R1 - £3500 for a decent one, 05 CBR1000RR - £3500, 05 ZX10R - £3700, 05 GSXR1000 - £4500. It's practically a grand more than the competition, for the sole reason that it has this 'amazing' reputation. For the money, the ZX10R wins hands down.

I had an 05 zx10r for a year, full akra, pc3, quickshifter...... in one word, "mental". It would shake the bars when pinning it in 4th gear, wheelies without trying.

I'm glad I have tried one, I do miss the aggressive power delivery on occasion, but overall I don't miss it.
Every ride was effort as opposed to fun, I had a zx7r at the same time and whenever I opened the garage I wanted to ride the 7r, but rode the 10r out of obligation as it was a new toy.
