Hi All,
My sister has a cbr 125 r ('07 model, injection)
The bike runs fine at the start but after a little while it starts cutting out at low rpms.
I have noticed that somewhere in 2013 someone on this forum had the exact same problem (also with '07 model cbr) and was wondering if this ever got sorted? (can't find the post)
So far I've:
changed the spark plug and battery,
checked the IACV valve (operates fine when removed and contact is switched on)
all breather hoses are free and fuel pump operates fine
temp sensor works
throttle body air channels are all clean
injector and fuel lines are all fine
Re-callibrated the TP-sensors zero position
erased all fault codes from the computer, and they do not return.
The bikes fuel consumption is quite high, so I think that it keeps choking, that would explain the cutting out at low rpms, since the bike is drowning itsself.
So my guess is that the problem is probably some electronic crap. The bike also has an O2 sensor, but there is no way of testing that thing without replacing it. (workshop manual just says "replace with a known good one" quite easy that way)
Any ideas anyone?
Thx a million,
Jelle

I think that bike has fuel injection.
I don't know much about the system fitted but I know a FI car I owned was very difficult to start when warm. The dealer removed the lead from the cold start. It was a Bosch system and used a fith injector in the inlet manifold to enrich fuel for starting. Apparently this was an issue and disconnecting the injector solved the problem.
IMO Ford should have up-dated the ecm to prevent the cold start working on a warm engine.
Your story does seem to be related to over-fueling and the high consumption agrees with that.
Maybe look into the system to find out what the engine uses to cold start.
I think an O2 sensor would require an oscilloscope (or a very ££££ posh meter) to test and calibrate with a known quantity of gas. Beyond the scope of most dealers. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |
