Soooooo, I ambitiously thought I could fix up this battered old NS125r after swapping it for a speedfight moped, I first thought it was the pre fox eye NSR but on further investigations (Logbook/google) I found it was the power valveless NS135R, all of which is pure digression.
I do not know where to start in fixing her up so any advice would be greatly received, Firstly and foremostly, she wont start, kicks over but i suspect many things, lack of spark, fuel blockage and carb issues mostly, followed by head gasket and other compression issues.
My main problem is lack of specialist tools, parts and knowledge.
I may just see if I can swap her for a runner and let somebody with more time and experience have a go....any offers?

Not any help what so ever, but in my mind a complete and tatty non running NS125R would easily be worth a straight swap for 2year old Chinese 125 that's in good working order. In fact If I had such a bike, id do the swap with you, as an NS project sounds appealing.

Hi

Whip the plug out, put it in the plug lead and hold the end of the plug on the engine (so it is earthed) and kick the engine over. See if the plug sparks.

Assuming that is fine, clean the carb out thoroughly and try some fresh fuel.

And do a compression check.

All the best

K

Ive narrowed the problem down to the exhaust gasket. Other problems are the clutch doesnt seem to engage when pulled and the front brake reservoir needs fixing or replacing as one if the bolts has sheared off. It has a spark and has compression after some rudimentary tests.im going to sort the leak on the expansion chamber joint (manifold?) hopefully it should start then.
Still would be willing to swap her for a less needy ride!

Ok latest update, have decided to keep it for the winter with the intention of either riding it for fun or selling it next summer.
I usrd some high tem silicone sealant on exhaust and have narrowed down the reason it wont start to tje ht lead, which is one of the first things I changed? The spark plug works, if I connect spark plug direct to ht lead, sparks away, as soon as I use spar plug cap, no problem but as I said the spark plug cap was the first I changed. Im wondering if the cable isnt connecting to spark plug vape? Its so frustrating.

Thanks for replies, and apologies for my piss poor typing.
So to answer no, im not sure its connecting, I dont like the screw in idea, there is no way if being sure. Somebody advised me to get a dyna tech ignition or something similar. They aren't cheap mind.
Somebody gave me a different old spark plug to try in the cap and it was from a cortina Shocked fitted the bike too, didnt kick it over though incase it hit the piston.
As is the case with this bike the more I progress the more I find that's wrong. The front brake, master cylinder? Am I right in calling the reservoir for brake fluid this?
Its no good, one of the screws that tightens it is sheared off half way down so it is still kinda usable but not gonna pass mot.I filled it with dot4 and no pressure. Caliper seems to be missing a bleed valve. I will try and post pics. Im going to keep this thread going through the rebuild
So im hoping once I get this ht lead issue sorted it will start, then I look at clutch and brake issues.

If you have replaced the sparkplug cap, you should check that u use one with the correct resistance. I believe some are 1k Ohm and other are 5k Ohm.
So if you have put a 5k where there should have been a 1k, it is possible that the plug will fire whilst out of the engine, but not whilst under compression.

All helpful stuff guys muchos gracios.
So present situation is bike is in neighbours front room. Still waiting for me to sort ignition out.
Might be a silly question but why do I have to hold the plug against the frame to spark it, I presumed it sparked against itself? When I joined the cable directly to the plug head and kicked it sparked like a good un. No earthing needed .
Interestingly there is one on ebay now, same colour but the unfaired version and they want 975 for it. Funny how 125's are holding their value so much more than bigger bikes. I could buy a 600 fzr in good condition for 600 quid. Pound per cc. Yet a grand for a 25 year old two stroke 125.
Tomorrow I will spend some time on her and take some better pics.

So got a new spark plug today, checked for spark through cap and whipped it in, no dice. Doesnt even sound like it wants to start.
So now im back to cleaning the carb and jets properly as I didnt take float bath off before, just sprayed it with carb cleaner. Then while its off im going to check the reeds.
If all above are in order I am literally flummoxed. Two strokes are supposed to be simple grrrr.
Also, going to get a can of easy start and freshen up the petrol.
Anybody want to take her off my hands lol, swap for any other running bike 125 up.

If anyone is interested ive put a sale or swap advert on the sale forum, theres a picture of her with fairing on.
Im not desperate to sell or swap but if I get offered 600 cash or a running bike 125+ I would find it hard to refuse.
Dream swap would be for a DTR or KMX.
I think 600 is a fair price, there is one on ebay now, three years older but same colour, for 975. And thats an unfaired version.

this bike is probably a 1987 or 1988 bike , it's Worth 400 quids
at this time it's impossible to find spares , you should break it and put parts on EBAY
