Happens to me all the time. People round here walk their fat old rubbish dogs off lead, then they end up going for one of my dogs or going for me on the bike. Dogs seem to hate motorbikes, especially louder-than-car ones. One started chasing me up the road a few months ago, so I remained slow enough that it could keep up as punishment for the owner letting it off - chased me about half a mile. Haven't seen it since come to think of it...

When I see dogs at the roadside I always prepare as I assume they're going to go for the bike.

Money on that it's not the first time the dog has chased a bike.

So many people are allowed to keep animals and less than half of them actually understand the beast.

my aunts dog used to bound down the garden path, run full tilt onto the pavement, and then STOP! on the side of the kerb, and cause emergency stops to happen. Sure it did it on purpose.

Cats don't tend to chase bikes though.

I do try to go past dogs quietly giving them as much space as possible, much like with other excitable lower lifeforms such as horses and cyclists.
