…it is worth stopping to put on the waterproof trousers I carefully made sure I had with me, even if it's only 20 minutes home, and even if it's not really raining properly yet.

Wet jeans are wet. Embarassed

actually, unless I thought I'd get particularly cold, I wouldn't normally bother myself, and if I did think I'd get cold, I'd probably already be wearing them

My waterproof textiles let a small trickle of icy cold rain water straight onto my bollocks... Waterproofs over the top, every time

The first time I went out in heavy rain mine did that too; and then, when a nice puddle had built up round my arse, I stopped to get petrol and stood up, and the whole lot ran straight down into my boots. I've since come up with a system for heavy rain involving a scarf round my waist, outside the trousers but under my jacket, and a big belt round the outside of my jacket to stop it flapping; seems to work pretty well so far. (I'm sure I look like a bit of a numpty, but so what?)

Possibly I just need better kit. But I bought it when I knew nuffin about nuffin and I really can't afford to spend a nother whole lot on kit right now…

For 20 minutes not at all. I was commuting last week when was downpouring. My commute was 30 minutes and have not bothered with waterproofs at all.

Just get home, take a shower, dry the soaked gear.

Never bothered with w'proofs, always wore Aldi (or was it Lidl?) biker thermals under my jeans. Quick-drying and they keep you warm. Heard something about it being better to be wet and warm than dry and cold Confused

There are only two really important rules for motorcycling.

Rule 2 is don't ride up the arse of the vehicle in front of you.

Rule 1 is so obvious that I shouldn't have to write it down, but I still see people occasionally forgetting it. Put your feet down when you stop!
