Riding In Thunder Storm

I've posted this on new bikers section as I'm still quite new, been riding for a year (Mod 2 booked). I have a Yamaha YBR 125. I've rode in winds, rode in the rain but not in a storm...as in 50mph - 70mph wind gust in heavy rain...as in strong wind and monsoon rain together. I commute 35+ miles each way between Birmingham - Rugby on A45 in urban and rural areas.
Should be adventurous and ride when storms are forecast or take the cage (car) ?
Has anyone rode in a storm on a 125cc bike ?

I've ridden in heavy wind and rain on my 125,rain is not a problem but the wind can be scary, and I was only on country road's. I was blown all over and down to 20 mph at times, just be careful or don't ride.

I used to motorway commute on a 125 (varadero, so a big 125) and I'd alter my route in heavy wind / rain to avoid some sections of very busy, exposed or sections susceptible to standing water

not sure if it was really necessary but I felt happier doing so.

key things in high winds / rain is grip the tank with your knees and relax your arms. By controlling the bike with your knees and feet you coax the bike into doing what you want instead of forcing it with the bars, you're less reliant on front end grip.

I've ridden a 125 through gale force winds in a sudden hailstorm and I can say without shame it was one of the most brown trouser events I've experienced. Getting thrown around on a layer of hail acting like gravel was very shit.

On bigger bikes it's not a problem, big lardy arse tourers like mine happily plough through the wind.

I love the really heavy rain (as long as it isn't on the way to work) The smell of the air, the spray, riding in the outside lane of the motorway passing all the other traffic, senses heightened and looking forward to that hot shower when you get home.

I've never yet ridden through torrential rain without having my bollocks sitting in a puddle of water coz I've never had any 'waterproofs' that actually achieved 'what it says on the tin'.

I concur, its not the rain on the road or the crosswind causing you to think.

It's that damn creeping wet feeling that becomes a reality between your legs because of yet another failed pair of waterproofs. That or I am always scared witless and have a weak bladder.

Either way that's what puts me off, the fact it's raining and interesting weather can make the ride all the more fun before that moment above kicks in.

Ridden through a few apocalyptic tropical storms. They're fun when you're heading home to a hot shower and dinner. Not so fun when you're heading to work

If the wind is blowing you around, stick your knee straight out in the direction the wind is blowing from. Helps to break up the impact of the gust. Just check your mirrors first so that your leg doesn't get clipped by a dumbo pulling a close overtake

Take the car on storm days it's no fun on most bikes let alone a light 125 and if you make a mistake the traffic won't help as the cage behind will probably be driving too close and fast for the conditions.

Save the brave trips for when the weathermen get it wrong and then tell everyone how you survived
