CBR600F, Daytona 600/650 or alternative for first big bike?

Just passed my mod 2, absolutely over the moon! a major relief after 2 previous fails..

Now onto the fun part.. what bike?

I like the injection versions of the cbr600f, I also love the daytona 600/650 models.. looking at approx £2k or thereabouts.. any input or suggestions?

No help whatsoever, but I always liked the now rare never popular Triumph Daytona 650. When I bought my first new 600 it wasn't available, but I reckon it would have been as good a bike as the Ninja A1 636cc overall.

I wouldn't have a carb fed alloy framed CBR600 if it was free though. The sport Fi model might have been much different/better though?

What about the bmw f800s,cracking fun bikes apparently and will do a bit of everything.Also,belt driven so no chain maintenance and look like nothing else.Dare to be different.

BMW is not cheap, even the rotax F800 series is expensive.

My suggestion is, go and have a look at the CBR or Daytona you like. The first motorcycle is just about looks.

CBR600F (02 onwards) is the best bike I've ever owned. Far more practical than the Daytona 650 (crap tank range??). I thoroughly recommend them as a first sports bike as well as a commuter. They can easily tour as well. Feckin A. I want another one now.

Run some insurance quoutes, from experience CBRs can be very expensive to insure if you're new and don't have a garage.

There are the usual other options - Fazer, Diversion/XJ6, SV650, etc. All will be cheaper, quick enough for hooning and slow enough for commuting.

Given you have nothing for comparison I'd go for whichever is the cheapest overall, or if money isn't a great concern then whichever appeals the most. Base it on things you'll notice rather than figures on a piece of paper or whatever.

Most people, certainly somebody buying their first bike, really aren't going to notice a few extra BHP at the top end, the adjustibility of the suspension, or a slightly quicker turn in.

What you will notice is the price and how it looks, and to a lesser extent things like MPG and tank range.

I had a CBR600F 2011 onwards. I would say it is a brilliant first big bike, it's the bike I properly learnt to ride on and gain my confidence.

I say go sit on them... one will feel better...

Insurance isn't an issue. every bike i've put in so far has come back less than £200 a year apart from the gsxr 750 which was £260 and thats a big for a couple of years time anyway.

I was set on an sv650 until i saw the daytona and realised the cbr600f's were in my price range.

Ive sat on a cbr600f, 2 guys in work got them and it seems a nice riding position but i need to test one.. the daytona I cant find any local.

I did sit on a new gsxr600 in bridgend suzuki and loved it.. so with 0% finance and the other extra incentives at the moments thats a serious consideration.

Bike will be used for a mix of commuting in nice weather and pleasure riding evenings and weekends (again nice weather).. i got a boring golf diesel for those wet days!

Oh and I did my test on an 08 fazer 600 and I liked it.. but not enough to buy im afraid, didn't do it for me and I'd prefer a slightly less upright ride.
