Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone had any experiences on NVQ level 2 courses in plumbing or higher and what companies/colleges you used.

About 13 years ago I did mine, it's all about getting the experience with a good company. You can do the theory in a relatively short time but for any real credibility you will need a few years learning the trade.

What makes you wanna come into the trade? Is your present job a load of tosh?

I did a 8 week course as an introduction to plumbing at a local college and really enjoyed it and fancy a change of jobs whilst I'm still kinda young (24). The only way I can see to get into the trade is by doing a level 2 course as a minimum then do a apprenticeship which according to a the local colleges takes around two years but until I do level 3 I wouldn't be classed a fully qualified plumber?

An easy way to focus your attention when learning plumbing is to have frozen the water pipes. Thumbs Up

Yeah u wanna find someone looking for an apprentice, problem you have is itl be pittance wage wise until you can produce your own work, aslong as your prepared for that. I was paid £150 a week back then..

level 2 is basic plumbing
Level 3 is advanced and heating (should also be ncs gas aswell)

Some guys who don't wanna touch heating / gas will only do a level 2 but if it where me I'd want the full lot.

I did all of them including gas when I was young whilst working for a company to gain experience. I think u need to have a job to attain the work experience side of the qualification (it's like a portfolio u get signed off by the engineer your working with at work)

Yeah the apprentice route does seem the best and i'd be more than willing to take the pay cut to £2.50 p/h but no one around me seems to want an apprentice for some reason.
Ah I see what you mean by the different levels and yeah I think i'd go for the level 3 if I was able to. This is why I've been looking at the private courses just to try and get my foot in the door.

A proper pipe freezer will keep them frozen all day if necessary, so long as there's electricity on site.
