mobility scootay wiring bypass potentiometer

got hold of a mobility scooter but its been fairly trashed.

the head unit wasnt there, all the wires have been cut all it has is the paddles for forward and backwards with the pot...

but it doesnt have the speed control pot or battery gauge...

connect 24v to motor it spins

continuity in all wires so no problems there but i cannot seem to get any power to the motor using the paddles..

what i want to know is

can i bypass the speed controll pot by just connecting the wires together?

Does it have a controller?
never played with one but reckon it's highly unlikely
the small pots/paddles on the bars will be designed to carry the high current needed by the motor.
What I reckon they do is send a variable voltage to the controller
which in turn regulates the power to the motor.
These can be sophisticated PWM thingys but even if its a simple cheap machine I'd expect at least a relay like you'd find on a bikes starter system.

it has the pot for the paddles which is intact it also has a pot for speed control slow to fast, the pot on the paddles has 3 wires, speed control pot has 2, 1 wire from paddle pot to speed controller and other to the box which goes to motor.


sort of lease of my problems at the minute, it has 2 fuses on 1 battery, 1 on the other battery and a main fuse in the control box under the floor pan and its taken to blowing them.

something else to look at now!

apparently not connecting the wires works fine can control speed by how far you push the paddles in.

now it all works backwards and forwards except when first turning it on it wont go backwards it just beeps at me until i turn it off, have to go forward then backwards but as soon as you stop the motor clicks a few seconds later and it wont reverse again :/

stupid thing.

now im having issues with the speed pot/wig wag...

i can go forwards fine but it wont go in reverse it gives me slow beeps..

the brake refuses to disengage in reverse unless i tap forward to unlock it then switch to reverse, once ive stopped moving i have untill the brake re engages to reverse again or it will refuse to reverse and i have to turn it off then back on.

no it works when on or off it.

its all working good now, ive been riding it through the house like a badman but i still can't fathom out the reversing issue so ordered a 5k ohm potentiometer in the hope it fixes it if not then itl just have to live with a wappy reverse.
