new helmet

hi guys/girls

been riding with a crappy box helmet for a while now and have cash so looking to upgrade. i want one with the pinlock as I constantly have to open and close visor as it steams up within a matter of seconds (doesn't help when you have a blocked nose either).

I have around £200-250 max to spend, was thinking of getting a Shoei XR1100 from helmetcity as they currently doing deals

any recommendations?

Different brands fit different people, personally I love Arai, and find Shoei uncomfortable, others find the opposite.

Go try several brands and see what suits your head shape.

I much prefer my Arai Chaser V over my old Shoei XR1100.

I'd try an Arai Axces II for your money range.

As said above, different people fit different lids, get your butt down a shop and try a load on, then you can either buy there or take your newly acquired knowledge to the internet and purchase the lid of your dreams there for a little less.

I've got two Arai's and a Shoei, all fit really well. My new Arai Quantum ST pro being the best fitting, its absolutely lovely.

My shoei is a Qwest, it's actually really nice too, lightweight and comfortable.

I heard a week ago from a staff member that J&S were doing the HJC RPHA ST. for £100 off RRP making it £199.99
I have one in white and it's a nice lid, way better on the motorway than my Shark Speed R, particularly when
doing shoulder checks. Also the visor catch is in the middle so you can open with either hand easily in gloves,
a chunky catch makes this a doddle. Inner comes out for washing, there's a fitted chin curtain, pinlock insert included
and drop down sun visor as well. I paid full whack for mine and still consider it a good buy.

Get an Arai or Shoei

When I first started out I suffered the cheap lids like Bieffe and basic AGVs etc but they were rubbish. One day a local dealer had a new Shoei on offer and I never looked back - there really is a difference.

Try some sharks, Speed/Vison R might be in your budget if you find a good offer, S900 will be.

The lining is very nice on mine, it feels dry even when everything is wet through. It's quiet. Visor doesn't scratch easily and the max pinlock works well. They have huge warranties and will honour them.

Check the sunvisor though, s900 sunvisor smacks me in the nose.

thanks for all the replies, I think the best thing is just to go in and try some on. i did want one with a sun visor so maybe the xr1100 or nxr is not the best bet, will take a look karma all around

i've used a HJC 15 for years as my 'coming to work' helmet, got to say its been brilliant.

My weekend one is currently an AGV AX-8 Dual Evo which i love to bits.

Avoid carberg as they always feel cheap and very noisy

My old Shoei 1100 was nice, but i'm more an Arai fit and it just always felt not quite right hence me getting a new helmet for weekends. Juts go try some on and see which suits your head.

Try on in a shop and bargain for a bit off the price or go buy online, thats what i do.

I don't think I could go back to a helmet with a 'clicky' visor type system now... Arai's smooth flip up and down and adjust at any level is perfect

I love my Shoei XR1100, you forget that you are wearing a lid when you have it on. Had the XR1000 before that and that was almost the same comfort wise.

If you spend at least £200 on a helmet its pretty guaranteed it will have a pinlock. i found that My medium shoei xr1000 feels at least a size bigger than a medium NXR. (I would of thought the 1100 fits the same as its predecessor) I have an arai as well and i much prefer the fit, i find the visor far better to use without that clicky mechanism too, it can just be a real pain to change the visor if your not used to doing it
