The other half smacked my windscreen and I need a MOT as well, so the car is off the road.
So today I did go to work by bike.
I can live with cold and damp, this is England after all!

But that Fecking rain! Shocked .....sheesh! , that has to be God`s punishment?
Heavy is a mild understatement.
So there I am coping with the weather , but the dick-head cagers make you want to rage and kill Twisted Evil

Three different cagers pulled out on me today without signalling Mad
In that pissing rain?, when I`ve got my lights on?
What`s the matter with them, for crying out loud?


So today I nearly got wiped out three times and the rain was so heavy, it got through my Jacket and boots
I got home from work wet and grumpy, only to find the dog has had a little accident in the utility room Evil or Very Mad

I very rarely have near misses or eeek moments on my bike. Today in the rain I had 6 people pull across my path forcing me to brake in 2 miles. Had to pull over and check my lights were on.

Then had some woman tail gate me from J5 to J6 on the M1 in pouring rain, sat a few feet from my wheel at 50mph. I slowed down, she did not overtake. I slowed to 30mph, she still did not over take. Got to the A41 roundabout, she follows me up, stops at the lights, I turn and see she is on her mobile phone.

The Bandit looks very sorry for itself after todays ride home. Definitely a day for the winter hack to make an appearance.

I also encountered far too many people pulling out without looking properly. Luckily I slowed first and anticipated the Grade A fuckwittery but I guess that comes with experience - which is hard to get without riding the bike.

At least I wasn't on the train though..

This evening was glorious. I forgot my waterproof onesie and got soaked through to the core.
I then discovered the A13 was shut because three cars had collided - the police enlisted the bikers near the front [me] to help shove one of the cars out of the way to open up lane three.
So that was nice.

I looked at the weather forecast before I left my house in Bow to head all the way up to Theobalds Grove station to pick up my scooter from Moto Psycho. New steering head bearings installed. I went on the train in my full suit + boots because of the forecast.

Then rode into work all the way down the A10, filtering through traffic. New steering bearings made such a difference.

Then rode home through the torrential rain, overtaking everyone everywhere, and loving it. ABS kicked in on the rear every time I braked hard after nipping into a gap. Always straight up when throttling on, but the rear squirmed around a little bit all the same.

Got home bone dry of course. Good times.

That's interesting. Does this mean you have come to rely on ABS to prevent you locking the back wheel, as you presumably would have done on a non ABS bike, if you rode in the same manner? Do you think you would remember not to brake so hard to lock the wheel if you now went to a non ABS bike, and allow for that possibility?

Not loaded questions btw. Maybe ABS is changing the way people ride? I've never had it myself, but wouldn't say no to it, if I could afford a bike with it.

I have used ABS bikes and non ABS bikes on and off since 2006. I don't think the ABS affects my riding style. And I would hammer any of the two styles of bike.
I think, with respect, the effect is about as much as or even less than the difference in 'effect' between FI and Carb engines has on riding style. No one complains about too much powah. Smile
If you ever have a shot of an ABS bike I promise you won't/shouldn't notice any difference.
Unless you are 'going for it' but then you may want the co-pilot to help.
I have a mode that turns most of the electrickery off for track use. It is practically useless/hopeless on the road as you can't safely use the 'fool' potential on open roads.
Whenever I use it for Road Races on closed roads that is different. Cool

I think you misunderstood my post. I'm not another ABS vs Non ABs stirrer. Although I have never had it, I do believe it is a worthwhile thing to have. But barrkel talks about deliberately provoking it's use, when as you say, most of the time you wouldn't expect to notice anything. See what I'm getting at? You wouldn't deliberately provoke locking the back wheel on every overtake in traffic on a non ABS bike, so therefore, it seems to have changed the way the bike is ridden. I don't suppose he rides like that all the time, but it seems to have given a different slant on the way he chose to ride on this occasion. Not saying it's a good or a bad thing. Sounds like he had fun doing it too Smile

I'd say possibly yes.

It has to be carefully qualified though because it's such a small sample set. Only the Nazi Tractor has had ABS and I very rarely trigger it, and I've binned a non-ABS bike exactly once under braking.

Do I consciously ride harder on the Tractor because I think "ABS gonna save me"? I don't believe so.

Do I ride the Enfield too hard because I've got used to just anchoring on? Might be. I have failed it once under circumstances where the Tractor would almost certainly have just stopped without any fuss.

Is that an argument against ABS? Absolutely, unequivocally not. I would always choose to have it rather than not have it now.

On topic, the aircon broke down up here yesterday, it was hell. Wink
