Thinking of gate crashing southport airshow on saturday to see the Vulcan. I know parking is going to be restricted to airshow guests - I'm intending to get as close as I can without paying as I'm a tight Yorkshireman and also as I intend to come home again after the Vulcan has finished as that's all I have time for.

Should I try to get to where all the bikes park at the top of the pier or will that be blocked off?

Should I just find a quiet corner on the edge of the parking / retail park as I should be able to see and hear the beast from there?

Anyone want to come, think I'll be leaving Bury around 12.30

They fence most of the front off. I think it was ripzay who parked down near one of the roundabouts, a fair trot from the pier where most of the action goes on.

Bit late now, but Blackpool is free.

There is a retail park by the pier so I'm presuming access is still allowed to get to here as I doubt Dunelm Mill would be happy about customers not getting in…

I'm also assuming most of it will happen over the sea following restrictions put in following Shoreham so should still see further down the front.

You can get to the retail park but your viewing is quite restricted from there.

The airshow at Southport is always out over sea anyway.

Would I be better off stopping further up from the pier near the water treatment place and just viewing from there?

I'm only going to give the bike a good run out and see the vulcan before I loose my chance, not fussed about seeing the rest of the show.

go and see it even if you have to park miles away and walk in.
while the display isnt anywhere near what they used to do, its still a thing of wonder.i remember full power take offs and all that black smoke.
made only about 10 years after the lancaster, aliens must have helped with the design.
we went into the shithole that is rhyl a month ago to see it.arrived 5 mins before display dumped the bikes in a carpark on the front, watched the vulcan then got the hell out of there.

You could go to Runcorn at around 1.40 to see the Vulcan because it will fly over there

Quote from another guy
"On Saturday in tribute to Avro Chief Designer Roy Cadwick (a Widnesian) the Vulcan bomber will do a flyover of Runcorn bridge and LJLA en route to display at Southport.

Roy Chadwick was born at Marsh Hall Farm, Farnworth, Widnes in 1893 - so it seemed appropriate that the likely last flight of the Vulcan in the North West should pay a special tribute to Roy. The "Vulcan to the Sky Trust" and Captain Martin Withers agreed and so at 13.40 on Saturday the last flying Vulcan will fly over the Widnes-Runcorn Bridge and dedicate the flight to our 'local' hero Roy Chadwick. (Because of new flight restrictions the Vulcan will not be able to pass over Farnworth).
After passing over the Bridge the Vulcan will overfly 27/09 at LJLA and then turn out lowish up the Mersey to rendevous with the Red Arrows on its way towards Southport to display at 14.05.

Also flyby for the Runcorn Bridge has been cancelled over concerns about the traffic on the bridge Neutral

Whenever I go down with a few lads on bikes, we just go here:

Where the yellow arrow is, you can get there from that side but you've got no chance getting along the front as they block it all off for tickets. You can see it all from there just as good.

I'll be heading in from the North, usually head in along the front down to Pizza Hut at Ocean Plaza near the pier and park there in the car.

I was planning the same approach, left over the bridge to the end of the pier.

You're saying it'd be better to head into town and down towards pleasure land or whatever the funfair is called?

See that yellow arrow? You can get on to that private road there and there's benches / gardens to sit in with a great view of the whole thing as the beach is only 1/2 mile away and the planes do all the fly bys right above you anyway.

Sat watching that Euro Fighter jet from there last year.

Here it is on Google maps street view: https://goo.gl/maps/pL9rj

You just turn off where that car is, go down by the blue container and there's the benches / wall you can sit on.

View from last year

A blatant lie, the sea never gets anywhere near Southport! Wink
