I'm surprised there isn't already a thread about this, or have I missed it somewhere? A search revealed nothing!

I suppose being into motorcycles and rugby must whittle down the numbers a little but there must be more than just me following the (2nd?) biggest sporting event to come to our shores in recent years!

We're off to a decent start anyway, I was impressed by our pace at the end of the game, Brown impressed as always. Such power. Many aggression. Wow.

I enjoyed the game. Like you said, Brown was on top form. Let's just hope they carry on like they did in 2003.

I'm going to Wales vs Uruguay tomorrow at the Millenium Stadium. Pretty sure it's going to end with a cricket score.

A guide to enjoyable watching of the rugby union World cup 2015.

First pick a game and click on Sky +.
Wait until the game has finished, (try not to see the result)
Use the skip button to skip past the scrums, lineouts and penalties, this will leave you with between 8 and 12 minutes to watch.
This 8 to 12 minutes is called "open play".
During open play press your skip forward button until the number 12 appears on the screen, the sped up footage will now make it look very similar to Rugby League.
You may want to slow it down to watch try celebrations, but these are very rare, so don't worry.
When the game finishes, stay tuned to listen to a patronising snob put down one of the most talented players on the pitch, just because he once played Rugby League.

Follow this guide to enjoy the next six weeks.

wasn't overly impressed with the ref wasting time using the computerised ref so much

also had to explain the rules to my wife who hadn't watched a game before Twisted Evil

Didn't see it, was having a curry. Much sad, very disappoint.

A colleague is stewarding for a lot of games. Paid time off work for it. I'm jelly.

I've never really got league, I've tried to enjoy it but I guess I don't follow the game tactically like I do Union, having never played league.

Georgia v. Tonga is actually pretty good too, impressed at that final play of the half by Tonga, even if the try was disallowed.

Was watching some of that Ireland/Canadia (yes, Canadia) game. Got a bit bored, probably because of the lack of "competition".

I will watch more, because it's egg shaped ball sports. Much better than ball shaped ball sports.

Can't stand it. Up then being brought up in Union country, the south West, there is no competition.

Sorry, didn't see this thread earlier.
Was busy watching the rugby ...! Laughing

What about those Japs, eh.
Putting the wind right up the Boks Cool Cool

Bloody lost a quid betting on Tonga. Lazy coconuts, very slack form indeed, for them! Georgians were awesomely neanderthal in comparison.

Rugby fact of the day.

England rfu team made 96 tackles during their game.

Last night St Helens player James Roby made 62 tackles against Wigan.

I know one style has less players and there is something about pay, but what are the main differences ?

I played a tiny bit at school, hardly worth mentioning but I want to iterate I know nothing. The first match I watched was opening game in 2003 RWC and since then I've watched every Six Nations game, WC, Lions, Barbarians and Premiership highlights. AND still don't understand the game Smile

So take my comments with much salt.

I thought it was typical England, start off with some enthusiasm, come off the boil, let the other side have a sniff, lose our game plan, lose ideas, fumble the ball, find a gear late on that makes you wonder why the middle 20mins was all about and ultimately have a score line that flatters the performance.

Mike Brown hasn't always impressed. Often I've thought his enthusiasm lacked intelligence and handling errors and missed tackles were particular issues.

That said, he was utterly brilliant. He saved a certain try against us and made his own. Great hands, brilliant oversight.
I'm hoping it's a bit cometh the hour, cometh the man.

Without the TMO and replay it could have been a different game (we may have struggled more).
In fact, the replays are a perfect example as to why each ball and tackle should be chased, because there is always a chance of getting the outcome (either tackle, try or interception etc).

But the game was very slow. Over reffed.

Homeside advantage seemed to play a big part. We got away with some stuff and their binning was harsh. A few of their penalties were harsh.

That said , really glad we came away with a good result and massively pleased there were no serious injuries which are always a possibility in opening games and top 50 ranked teams.

Onwards Thumbs Up

No idea.

When I should have been learning the rules (of both) I was busy looking at legs and bums. Now I have grown out of perving ( Angelic ), I have no fucking clue about the actual rules, or reasons why they do things in either game. I know the scoring rules, but the hows and whys of scrums, lineouts and all that malarkey, who knows. It's just ingrained in my national psyche Laughing

All I know that league just looks gawky, whereas union looks smooth and co-ordinated. I can spot a foul in a union game, cos I am so accustomed to watching the game-play - but not in a league game, cos it all just looks arse-about-kite to me.

Ergo, 40 years later, if you see me watching a league match, I am probably *still* really only perving at bums and thighs.

Whereas I do get quite uppity during union matches (as the Prez found out somewhat to his surprise last night Laughing ) - he's not seen me that passionate about anything other than his, erm ...

No, I am not going to say "tackle", cos you will all just laugh and say "Well it is hellkat after all, what else did you expect her to say!?"

So I shall replace the word "tackle" with "cream finger donuts" : much politerer.

I was very cross about that reffing last night. That little ref should have shown himself the yellow card several times for using too much telly.
