Hi all. Have 2 years NCB with RCIB (Right Choice) written to them at their customer care e-mail address and their complaints e-mail address, both addresses I've been ignored. I've written about five e-mails between said two e-mail accounts and still no reply.

My new insurance company is on the verge of cancelling my policy. Just wondering if and what Trading Standards laws they're going against? Thumbs Up

Thanks in advance.

Have you got renewal notice from them?

Because you can use the renewal notice as proof of your NCD.

Are they brokers? Because you can get proof of your NCD from the broker or from your actual insurance company.

You need a letter from your previous insurer with:

insurer’s name
insurer’s policy number
Your name
Policy expiry date
Number of years NCD

Call them, if they do not give you NCD ask for complaints department and than call Financial Ombudsman: https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

You're right to have initiated a complaint early doors but really, Y U NO PHONE?

You do not want your new policy to be cancelled by the insurer. Either cancel it yourself or get them to re-do it without the NCD and then chase up NCIB for the extra money at your leisure.

You will not be given PoNCD until the current policy is due for renewal.

Normally 30 days before the current policy ends.

I wonder how they'd respond if you worded it as a subject access request?

Have you contacted your new insurer to tell them you're having toruble.

In an absolutely unexpected fit of helpfulness, I once had a new insurer call my old one when they were dragging their feet about proof of NCB and sorted it out themselves. It's not a data protection issue because you already signed to accept insurance companies sharing your information.

seriously, phone.

Record call if you are paranoid, but make sure you inform everyone you speak to that you are doing so or it will be inadmissible as evidence.

My usual tactic is to phone broker's 0800 sales line, greet sales droid cheefluly, explain quickly that you have a problem and ask to speak to their supervisor because you don't think they can help, this usually results in being passed in the right direction quite quickly as sales droid wants to get back to making sales not handling awkward, as handling awkward kills their stats.

When devitt/rac couldn't make a mid-term adjustment for anywhere near even the price of a new policy with the same underwriter with a different broker, this technique turned a massive fee for cancellation into a healthy pro-rata refund.

Don't be afraid to make a data protection act request in writing if that fails, but if your new insurer is trying to cancel on you, seriously ask them if they will help deal with current insuer, and if not, pay extra for no NCB, and write letter asking for that money plus any adjustment fees, along with no claims bonus, if no reply in a month, Financial services Ombersman.

Stay Insured
