Hi lads,

I'm a bit nerdy when it comes down to the nitty gritty and like to track what sort of MPG I get (mainly on car but want to do it on the bike too)

Most the stuff I have googled is geared towards the USA, and therefore using stupid currency and stupid gallons.

At the moment I just write it all down, but, this is shit as

a) wastes time and paper
b) because effort

Thinking of setting one up but will likely be a work in progress, wondering if anyone's beaten me to it?

To include:

Date, litres used, fill cost, cost with discount (clubcard points yo), miles travelled, MPG, cost per mile etc!

I know fuelly exists but I don't get on with it tbh, plus with this I can add in info on servicing / tyres all sorts.

Cheers lads.

Thumbs Up

Garmin mechanic No Internet connection required to log
Fuelly Needs connection.
Both can be configuered for Metric/Imperial.

I 'was' tracking fuel for about two years but sort of dropped the ball a couple of months ago.
You's MPG doesn't seem to mean that much if you consider way you use the vehicle is such a variable that averages are not very helpful
Miss a fill up and it all goes to shite too. Smile Embarassed

I have a ScanGauge device in the car which connects to the OBDII and that gives you some good data.
Most of the gauges Coolant, MPH, RPM, Boost, Load etc.
Or you can display Cost Per Mile, Cost today etc.

That is a more useful toy.

But bikes don't have OBDII Sad

Yeah that's why I don't like them, you have to fill up fully every time etc, sometimes it doesn't go that way in real life.

Thats cool. My car has a hidden menu that you can see many options, including coolant/engine temp. Which I recently used to diagnose my thermostats needed replacing!

The car is now getting up to proper temperature and I'm getting much more MPG which is nice.

Looks like I'll stick to the spreadsheet idea for now then.. when I get a quiet day at work maybe.. Wink

Do you have an android phone?

I've been building something for a while now and although progress is slow (time is precious) it's moving along.

There's a web app part

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/webapp.png

Has bits to show where you fill up

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/mapapp.png

Or if you share your anonymous data the most popular fill up places..

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/mapshareapp.png
There's a phone app part

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/phoneapp1.png

You can share graphs with other people (email, dropbox, twitter etc)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/phoneapp2.jpg

Data is sent via SMS so in poor signal areas with no internet connection it should still work ok..

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/phonapp3.png

or a little badge of your stats

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/188253/general/NC700X_badge.jpg

There are also data export options so if you ever want to bug out you can take your data with you..

Not all the features you are after are in there but I'm happy to discuss adding stuff... oh and ATM 1 vehicle per account...

BCF does not disappoint. Cool

That looks epic scaredycat.

Yes, I do have android, S5.

Awesome, really like the look of that. Thumbs Up

Extra options I've thought of (in all of 10 seconds) would be cost per mile and also fuel used e.g. Tesco, V power, etc. Maybe this could just be in a notes section I don't know.

Even servicing reminders or is that going a bit OTT.

I have been using Spritmonitor for a few years now, it's aimed at germans (I think?) but it has an english option and lets you track many things, not just fill ups. I keep track of all the spannering I do, the bits I have to buy, what I pay out in insurance tax, VED tax, MOT tax etc. as can be seen here. If you sign up all the units can be converted to whatever you like.

If you miss recording a fuelling you can also start again later and it just carries on with the data you provide, is this not possible with Fuelly? I've never used that.

You can add later fills and correct errors/guesses but I have lost the plot somewhere and consumption figures are all over the place now. I need to start from scratch but can't be bovered.
The headache with fuel is you can't use it without being connected to the net. Which is limitingly pish.

I use refuelling database app with three vehicles, which seems to do all you want including servicing notes.
You can export as CSV into a spreadsheet too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.harnisch.android.fueldb&hl=en

When you have a bit of data to work with it can do evaluation calculations too like overall mileage.

But em pee gees can/could give you a heads up as to problems with the bike before they get too bad.

Once when touring I got only 52mpg from one tank, when all rest were 68-72. No idea why, the next tank was back up to 70ish, was quit surprised to hit reserve after only 80 miles rather than the usual 110, my first though was that the bike had died!

I have mine set for UK gallons and mpg but you can enter litres.
Didn't seem unduly difficult at the time.
