Hi, I have bought an gear oil but that's not a concern I think, I saw that oil was made 2012 so I never thinked about how much oil lifetime have if he is in sealed (not open), but still, maybe after these years something change badly and you shouldn't put that in your bike stomach.
I know that an oil which is opened have some lifespan, but also don't know how much ?
So an oil experts, need your wisdom . |

What??? it`s oil! if it has been in the shed/cupboard un-opened, I`m sure it`ll be fine.
In all my life, I have never heard of oil "going off"????
Oil that has been used and has moisture in it , Maybe?
I`d like to be proven wrong and for someone to show me oil that has never been used, that is "off"

But but it's not 'fresh'. It might taste sour or go lumpy in coffee. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |

Some specialist oils do. I have a tin of bushing oil that is past it's 6 month shelf-life. It's a very high purity transformer oil used for high-voltage 'bushings'.
I keep mine to top up my oil-filled transformer welder, which it's perfect for.
For automotive oils I doubt there's a problem if stored unopened. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
