|
Sooooo, a bit of local knowledge requested from the London contingent, I'm on a stag trip to London this weekend, and it turns out there isn't much pre-planning involved, the only item currently on the agenda is find a pub to watch Spurs v City on Saturday afternoon .
Now it's been a while since I've been down to the big L, so does anyone have any ideas that would keep 10-20 stagees entertained Friday / Saturday that doesn't just involve drinking, strippers and trying to stay out of the river, or alternatively a list of interesting ale houses generally within staggering distance of Kings Cross
Cheers for any useful recommendations, awaiting 'whats wrong with beer n strippers '

Cheers for the tips - the foody place looks pretty cool for alternative eats - big groups are always bloody awkward - we're all mid 40's and can't do curry three nights on the trot these days . ____________________ FZ1-S Fazer (licence killer😢) , CRF1000L - Adventure Sport |

Cable car over to the O2 and back Going on the last or second to last cablecar (usually at dusk) is the nuts.
They might not let drunken louts on, cos you might fall out or something (I can't remember, I'm sure there must be some sort of safety device ) ... but it's quite a cool trip there and back, right over the water, it takes about 40 minutes to go both ways, and at dusk you can only really do a return trip, as otherwise you get stuck over at the O2 and can't get back other than by DLR. Could do a single journey one way or the other, I suppose.
On the Excel side (Royal Victoria) there's also a scruffy little boozer-on-a-boat parked up in the water in front of the Excel called "Oiler Bar" which is apparently not bad, might still be warmish enough for them to be doing barbies or something ... although I havent been there myself yet. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Check out Sam Smiths pubs for a quirky watering hole, they run some of the oldest pubs across the city, cheap drinks, things like billiards tables and what not.
There is a ping pong bar in Holborn (as in play ping pong, not Thai style), and a table Football bar in Shoreditch, the Ping Pong bar is ridiculously busy, seemingly always, book a table if it interested. The table football bar seems like a proper laugh but I've not been yet so can't confirm, way way cheaper than the Ping Pong too.
The Pedibus seems a laugh but not sure you'll be able to book it in such short notice https://www.pedibus.co.uk
Ummmm
I'll see what else springs to mind. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

Cable car good idea - I'm sure I watched a programme where they built the thing (sorry, love my geek TV), the drunken idiots bit may be a real risk unfortunately, depending very much on Saturdays result we may not be the best ambassadors for uz oop norf ____________________ FZ1-S Fazer (licence killer😢) , CRF1000L - Adventure Sport |

Oops, sorry, missed that bit.
The Excel/O2 cable car is quite a way from there - although nothing is that far from anything else on the tube, really.
Meantime, in the interests of staying in the Kings Cross region:
You might like to go to the Wellcome Collection, halfway up Euston Road. Yes it's a sort of museumy thing, and yes it's probably not what you would expect to do on a stag do, but it's all about the human body, has interesting interactive exhibits, and is within 10 minutes (maximum) walking distance of Kings Cross, and its kind of amusing in a geeky sort of way. Fridays and Saturdays it's open from 10am until 6pm.
"The free destination for the incurably curious".
Might not really be stag-do material, but if there are some geekazoids amongst you who just want to get away from the boozing and noise, its an absorbing place to go.
(Not sure if they are still running the Sexology exhibits, but might be worth an ask, so you can go and titter at [I dunno what boys titter at]... )
Also:
Pub called the Invisible Dot Limited (2 Northdown Street, London N1 9BG - about a block and a half from Kings Cross Station) has a really small intimate comedy club which is rumoured to be quite good. That's also on my To-Do list.
Or maybe (teambuilding): HintHunt ( hinthunt.co.uk ) in Eversholt Street is supposed to be a bit of a laugh if your pissed (although I am skeptical on that front, myself ... ) : sort of a cracking clues and codes thing, from what I understand, although I suspect it will need booking up in advance (and possibly well in advance) ... so you might not get in by just strolling up to the door.
Last suggestion for now:

Granary Square might be quite nice to recover, it's round the back of Kings Cross (I always get lost round there!) and has fountains and water and grassy steps to chill out on.
I think there is a foody sort of thing there, called Kerb, like a streetfood sort of arrangement of stalls with trendy noms - it might be seasonal, so worth checking, but it won't be hangover food ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Anywhere on the tube system is doable, and to be honest it is as cheap as chips to use if you have a contactless card.
I don't really like London (funnily enough considering I was born there) but the public transport system is ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Yes, the advanced booking thing probably not for us, in his defence, the groom has decided to bugger off to Mexico to get married (assuming things don't go terribly, terribly wrong this weekend), so hasn't appointed a best man to get this trip organised, that beerkeller looks useful, and why do I recognise the Angel at Islington, is it famous for something ??
C_dug thanks very much for the offer, I've been keeping an eye out for the next batch of photo's, I hope the museum realise how much free advertising they're getting, and I would have grabbed the opportunity to have a look around under other circumstances, may just have to stick to the German bar this time ...... ____________________ FZ1-S Fazer (licence killer😢) , CRF1000L - Adventure Sport |

Start with Electric Go Karts a short walk from Mile end Tube station (just outside London) good fun sober activity
before things get messy, good photo opportunities for a stag do with you all in lids and overalls. They also cater
for Stag parties so will be used to you lot sodding about. I went on a team building activity day thingy there
when I was working locally, it was a good laugh with the lads from work. Surprisingly fast karts.
https://www.revolutionkarting.com/
Then head west into Whitechapel for a drink or three at The Blind Beggar because cool Krays based
stag do location for a few more cool pics with the groom and his 'firm'.
Release yer inner gangster you schlaaaaggggs!!!
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186338-d553614-Reviews-The_Blind_Beggar-London_England.html
Then hop a tube to Tower Hill station for a Ripper walk because it should be a good giggle on a stag do especially
if there's been a good few consumed at the Blind Beggar earlier. I visited Edinburgh last year and went on a
similar sort of walking tour and despite my initial doubts it was very entertaining, interesting and a
laugh too. There was a stag do on our walk and they were having a right old laugh among themselves, but
the guide handled them superbly well when they got out of line, I expect these 'theatrical' guides are
quite used to pissed up parties and I'd certainly go on another walking tour. Here's a good un. https://www.jacktheripperwalk.com/
Bearing in mind you'll probably end up back in Whitechapel again, I'd recommend walking on a little more
and hitting Brick Lane for a curry, your mates will probably want to eat by now anyway.
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Tower+Hill,+London+EC3N+4DR,+UK/Brick+Ln/Liverpool+Street+Station,+London/@51.5158592,-0.0850137,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m20!4m19!1m5!1m1!1s0x4876034955a8fd2d:0xfc43c25465103301!2m2!1d-0.0762615!2d51.5095078!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761cb640ab7f25:0xe1078eb9c803248e!2m2!1d-0.0717137!2d51.5220028!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761cb2128c44e3:0xcc62d64d59af51bc!2m2!1d-0.0810913!2d51.5192508!3e2
Loads of great curry houses along there. Line your stomachs for round 2 ,also last chance to get a few
more reasonably priced beers down with your food before heading into proper London.
Then a short after dinner stroll down to Liverpool St station where there are many bars, or hop a train
from there to anywhere you want to go next. Above ground, a No 8 bus will take you all the way from there right
into Oxford St and the West end for the second half of the evening.
Stag activities done - check
Nice family friendly photo opportunities of the boys -
at cool blokey locations - check
doing bloke stuff - check
Eating proper bloke food - check

Wellcome, as HK suggests, is faarken oarsum! But after a stag train ride... hmm. What's the general attitude of the stags? Museum of childhood? Science museum could work, as the children will drown out the screaming. Imperial War museum, but check, as I think they may be having a refit.
Still, there really are some smashing boozer's tucked away behind Camden Town Hall... have a wander. They are within bladder distance, so no widdly up the walls, now!
Edit; Wly London? It's too dear, too full, too much despair.
Have fun instead. srsly.

Tremendous response chaps n chapesses,,
AB, PB & T S-C-G : Did Liverpools version of the Tate a couple of years ago and agree with the building sentiment - much better than the content, which looked like it was all the crap Lahhndon couldn't be arse taking to a car boot sale .........
HK : Never really, actually been banned from anywhere yet, although Teneriffe was a close call one year, maybe try harder this weekend lol
Katzenjammers with two recommendations must be worth a punt
Think we may have done gokarts to death (and almost to the death), so will try and avoid bruised ribcage this time round
Love the Krays boozer suggestion will have to find that
As to why London, no idea (I'm based 4 miles down the road from Blackpool, Stag central), may become clearer when we find out who's actually turning up.
Finally, reasonably priced ? what consitutes reasonable these days - we're paying £3.00 - £3.50 a pint up here in the pubs for general purpose beers, 4-4.50 for the premium stuff, what say ye Mr southerner ?
Regards to all

For Katzenjammers, download the table ordering app, it makes a good night fantastic. I can't remember the name of the app but it's advertised inside. You link it to paypal or a card, then order to your table directly avoiding the scrum at the bar.
Then, pretty young ladies dressed in lederhosen will bring litre tankards of beer and steaming German food directly to your table, meaning you only need to get up to let the beer out the other end.
It will be busy on a weekend so get there early if you want a table. If you want a chance at conversation get a table as far from the bar as possible and use the app.
It's split into two main rooms, they often have an oompah band in the room with the bar which is great for a laugh, but being a cellar bar the place is already very loud and it only gets louder with live music thrown into the mix. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |
