Right, on the way home I went for an overtake and noticed I was well passed the redline almost back into the white Laughing on the tacho but engine was still pulling hard and sounded normal, got home turned the bike off and noticed the counter was stuck at 4k.

Any ideas on how to resolve it i.e get it back to normal?

Ariel motorcycles of Birmingham used to fit an oil pressure gauge to their bikes, as the engine got warm the pressure dropped and people worried about this and spent a lot of time looking at the gauge rather than the road. Eventually they removed the gauge and it stopped people worrying.
You are in a similar situation, you know how the engine should sound so trust your senses. Alternatively chuck a load of cash at it and buy a new clock and sender unit.

To be honest I am not "worried" about it, I don't know if it will come back to bite me being the bike has more electrics than I am used to.

Fixed it, took the speedo apart and reset the needle back to 0 RPM.
