recommended helmet £150 budget?

So i'm looking for a replacement lid soon, budget around £150, whats my best bet?

Was looking at caberg duke until i read a few rather unpleasant reviews for them from people on here

HJC IS-17 is a decent lid in the budget. Fits me like a glove and quieter than my previous Caberg. Internal sun visor steams up easy on cold mornings though.

Ive got the flip up version os the IS-17 (IS-MAX II) which is a decent helmet for £150.

being modular though mine has a bit more wind noise than the rigid type but the built in sun visor and pinlock make it a good all rounder.

I hope you're not trying to buy a helmet in a online shop. You must realize that everyone's got a rather unique head and not every lid (even the stupidly expensive ones) will fit your head.

I bought my current helmet online, and fits me fine.. did i get lucky? possibly.. but worst case scenario it had free returns with sportbikeshop

Will see if they got any HJC helmets in thunderroad or south wales superbikes and go from there

AGV's are in that budget, love those lids, such georgeous designs due to mr Rossi being sponsored by them, but as said above, each person fits different lids, get yourself to a shop and try a load on, don't be shy about it either 😉

On the subject of HJC, are they a quiet helmet brand? How quiet are they compared to MT helmets? Looking to upgrade to this.

I like it because its light and makes lifesavers much easier. There is a little motorway wind noise, but I commute in town and on long motorway runs wear ear plugs anyway.

Its £85. You will have £65 left for something else. Nice CE level 2 protection Flex gloves maybe?

How desperate are you on timescale ?

Nec bike show is coming up soon, might be worth waiting a bit, pop up on the last day and get a "can't be bothered to put it back in the van" bargain. Either that or like said previously, go to a shop try a load on and a bit of online bargain hunting.

I always use ear plugs but my hjc was the quietest helmet Ive had, only problem I've had with it in 2 years is the sun visor doesn't fully retract anymore so I always have to push it right the way back in, not a major problem

I don't find my IS-17 to be very quiet. I also get a lot of head buffeting at speed with it, although this may just be in combination with screen height and shape on the bike. I switched to the RPHA10 and find it much quieter, and no more buffeting. The older RPHA can sometimes be had at a bargain price OL, if you go for the pre 'Plus' model. Not much difference, just chin vent and visor changed, and graphics of course.

The other problem I had with the IS-17 was that it seems to direct a stream of air straight into my eyes no matter what I did with it - visor position had little effect, blocking vents didn't improve it. Others have had the same problem, and there was a gasket for the chin vent made to try to alleviate the problem, don't know if that worked. Not everyone gets the problem, and they have sold well.

Half the battle in getting a quiet lid is ensuring a proper fit.

I had a K3 and although it was noisy, cheap and felt like bits would come off at any moment, it did save my head in a crash and I can't imagine getting much better for that low price. That is, unless you can get a clearance bargain at the bike show or similar. I got my Shoei Raid 2 for that money and it is superior in every way.

I must be in the minority because I have a HJC IS-17 and it's got a couple of pretty big failings.

1. Wind noise is dreadful. I wear good ear plugs and it still leaves my ears ringing after an hour's riding.

2. The visor doesn't seal. Ride in even moderately heavy rain and you get rain on the inside very quickly. It's easily the worst helmet I've owned for this. Add it to the fact that the visor coating is not as good as others for repelling water.

Shame because it fits me well and the sun visor is ok too.

Cheers for the recommendations guys, I like the look of the AGV K3, but thinking about it I will be going to Motorcycle Live in December so if theres a chance I can get a bargain then I think i'll hold out.. good thinking whoever said that!

Girlfriend says her IS-17 gets pulled upwards by aero effects if I'm going quite fast. I'm not quite sure exactly how fast this sets in, but two up and big luggage on and keeping up with traffic on a quiet motorway seems to have provoked this statement. I think she's scared of getting her head down a bit in case we bash lids.

IS17 fixes my complaints about the IS16 (useless and hard to operate vents) and and FG15 (vents fragile as all hell) but is a bit too much of a round head shape for me.
