I'm half heartedly looking for a gsxr600 (08/09 blue with blue wheels was/is my preference).. but finding good examples hard to come buy and relatively expensive, around the £5k mark for a good one.. a fair bit for a 7 year old bike i think.

I visited thunderroad suzuki in bridgend today and am now thinking having seen the new bike offers available am I better off going whole hog and buying new.. would have to get a different colour scheme though, probably the moto GP livery.

I mean they are offering low deposit, 0% apr, free yoshi exhaust, few other bits and bobs and there is discount to be had off list price.. plus obviously a warranty.

Only thing that concerns me is the "running in" period, not something I really want.. but what other pro's and con's am i missing about new bikes?

Also anyone know if there will be a new model gixxer next year? If so I may wait...

They are offering finance deals because Suzuki have a new bike for 2016, if you get a new 15 or 65 plate GSXR it will depreciate like you wouldn't believe.
Suzuki haven't really put any effort into developing the GSXR since 2005 so the difference between say Kawasaki is miles apart these days. Next year the new GSXR is supposed to be on par with the rest of the manufacturers.

If you want it, have it. Just haggle hard on the basis that Suzuki will lop another grand off it next month and give away a surplus Booth Babe with every purchase.

In what terms are you saying the GSXR is miles apart from the Kawasaki and where have you got that info from?

Every comparison / review for middleweight sports bikes I can find shows a close race between the bikes with it almost coming down to personal preference.

One review I watched on youtube was directly comparing the zx6r and the gsxr600 from 2014 and said the zx6r edged it on the track but the gixxer was a better allrounder.. I'd be surprised if anyone bar the top highly skilled riders would notice a gulf in difference between any of the current 600cc models available. Correct me if i'm wrong?

The reason I've been leaning toward the Suzuki is because it has the most comfortably (for a supersport) riding position of all the bikes so will be ideal for me as 50% of riding will be commuting and around town. Also I prefer the styling of the gixxer over all the other bikes, personal preference I know.. I was initially looking a daytona 675s but I sat on one in triumph cardiff and hated the position!

I have looked and looked and theres no sign of a 2016 change for the GSXR 600 and looking at used prices of 2011/2012/2013 bikes I dont think the depreciation is huge by any stretch. I don't know, back to the drawing board I guess lol..

What price are you talking about on the new one, about £8k?

Seems a lot when there are low miles, year old bikes out there for around £6k.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2014-Suzuki-GSX-R600-L1-/171939265580?hash=item280860fc2c

Big saving over a new one after a year. Think about how your new Gixxer will suffer depreciation after a year and a new model release.

When the new model comes out everybody will hate it for a couple of years anyway and say how horrendous its looks, too focused for a road bike ect.
Like the k5 1000, now its a modern classic and great all rounder.

0% APR on the new one though, would have thought an average 6k loan would end up being close to 7k after interest.

That's why I haven't had a loan on a vehicle since I was 19. Maybe OP should just buy something he can afford without strapping himself up to years of repayments.

0%APR is like a discount on the bike, even if you have the cash upfront. You get to make some interest on it for a few years rather then the dealer doing so.

£7795 for a brand new one at my local stealer, and that's the asking price.

I would use 0% even if I could buy the bike outright. It's the equivalent of money for nothing.

Makes a lot of sense if you want a shiny bike but can't stump up the cash immediately.

If it's the kind of bike youre looking to buy and can accept the depreciation (everything depreciates!) then go for it. You won't get a better deal on anything!

Depending how old you are it can also work towards improving your creidt rating which could be handy. I did this when I bought a DRZ400SM years ago even though I had the money in full available.

+1

I've bought items on 0% and had the cash at hand. If you want it, buy it. Life is too short to dick around waiting IMO

I'm 27, my credit rating is fine and although I don't have the cash up front (because I can't save for shit) I can comfortably afford the repayments.

Matt I find it incredible how people look at vehicle finance these days as "strapping yourself to payments for years".. 0% finance is the same as saving up less the boring wait, life is too short .. Do you feel the same about mortgages? Or did you buy your house up front?

What dealer was offering a new bike for £7795? I'd be very interested in having a discussion with them.

You can't crash your house in to a tree and be left stuck paying for it.

You can either save up for 10 years, or pay the repayments.

It's also your money to do what the hell you want with.

To be honest, when it becomes someone elses business as to what you do with your own hard earned cash, be sure to let them know. Thumbs Up

It's not though
0% is a promotion from the importer but the dealer also has to chip in.

Not taking the 0% deal gives you more leverage for a discount on the ticket price.

Mickey Oates in Glasgow. No worse than any other dealer.

Could be a pre-reg, but I don't see a plate on it.

If people didn't buy new where would the second hand bikes come from?

If you can afford it and not into chopping and changing buy new. Those who chop and change rely on the second hand market. I haven;t had many bikes over the 30+ years of riding, but have usually bought new bikes that I really wanted and stuck with them.

They have done a service for me along with a brake recall and cut a new ignition key. Ive not had any issues with them and they seem pretty accommodating but I haven't bought a bike from them. I bought my gixer from the performance centre in Ashford and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Not always. Since the dealer usually/sometimes gets a kick back from the finance company.

If you have the monies, but can get 3% return on an investment over the finance term, you're better off taking the finance deal if it's less than that. Simple maths really.

As an example, went to a dealer to buy a car today and the dealer didn't give a toss that we were cash buyers and tried to steer us towards finance, seems to be the norm at the moment.

To the OP, if you want it then get it. Whatever you get there will always be something newer/betterer/shinier.

Personally I could be tempted by a GSXR1000 on 0%, but I don't have teh monies at the moment.
