XJR1300 start up

Hi just after some advice please. I have a 2008 yamaha xjr1300 on start up from cold the bike takes a good few tick overs before it will fire up, once its been started it rides great and will start up right away but any longer than about 3 - 4 hours of no use it will take longer to start. the bikes has had a service oil filter plugs air filter and a good battery fitted. that is connected to a good battery conditioner over night. is this normal? the bike always starts but i don't want it getting any worse as i use it for work. All my other bikes have fired up straight away and it just bothers me that this one does not. Any help or info would be great.

Does it have an automatic or manual choke?

If manual have you tried it with the choke? I've had bikes that require choke to start all year around, but particularly this time of year when it's starting to get cold in the morning you might find your need it more.

Make sure all the connections on the low voltage side of the coils are clean. My bike is similarly averse to firing in the cold. This is one of the scenarios iridium plugs might be useful. Mine fouls the plugs with fuel on a cold start, iridiums are less sensitive to this.

Do you turn on the ignition and press the starter straight away? My FI CBR600f, mk1 petrol ford focus, and mk2 petrol ford focus all don't like that, need to leave it a few seconds with the ignition on or they'll take ages to start.

I'd guess that in my case the fuel pressure regulator leaks fuel from the rail back into the tank, meaning the pressure in the FI system is inadequate if it has been left for a while. All start/run fine if given a few seconds to build pressure first.
