hi
i just bought a burgman 125 2005 model and it has done only 9000 miles
i originally bought it for this reason because i thought it has not done so many miles so the bike must be in a good condition and also the owner assured me that he used it only to commute to work which is a 6 miles in total
and he also mentioned that the previous lady owner has it sitting for a winter because she couldnt be bothered to ride when its cold and raining
the first week the bike lived up to the description
the second week the battery died which was totally my fault for letting the lights on all night one day
i took the old battery to a Piaggio dealership and charged it a bit just so i can get home that day but the guy at the dealership advised me to buy a new one which i did
the new battery came next day
it was a powerline 12v
installed it and the bike was working fine
yesterday i was riding it to get to work and it stopped
i was doing 20 and as i come out of a speed bump with quite a shake the engine stopped
the lights were still on also the dashboard light were still on but as i try to start it it wouldn't start
i left it there and continued to work
when i come back to it i tried to change the new battery for the old one and it still did not start so i put back the new battery and called my insurance to recover it
i just wanted to know what should i expect the issue to be
i thought that the screws of the new battery became loose when i came out of the speed bump speeding but when i made sure they are screwed properly the bike did not start
could it be the engine thats gone?
or just some electrical issue? some cable came loose or something
tnx in advance for anyone who will contribute

Get a volt meter and measure voltage of battery. Is it more than 12 volts?

What happens when you press the start button? Does it make a rapid clicking noise?

Have you checked kill switch/side stand switch? Has it got petrol?

Did you measure more than 12 volts with a volt meter? What is the measured voltage on the volt meter?

Try to jumps start it with some car battery.

If it does not starts, that will mean you have electrical issue, probably loose connection. Or anything else.

Means find your service manual.

If it does jump starts is faulty battery or charging.

I don't know what noise your bike made when it died, I was not there Very Happy

Was it a rapid clicking noise, a switch going on and off?

There is no point to do any voltage measurement now because the battery is not fully charged at the moment.

Tell us if it jump starts or not?

Or you can buy a charger and charge 100% your battery. Honestly each bike MUST have one.

Than with 100% charged battery try to start and let us know.

Its £21 FFS Very Happy and I leave it connected to all my bikes to keep the battery in good shape.
