 |
|
Just got a dynojet kit through for my VFR. One of the parts is glueing a shroud to the top of the needle jet.
Now it ought to be well de-greased (but I'll give it a blast of brake cleaner anyway) but I'm a bit wary of doing it given the utter chaos that could ensue if it came adrift and got into the engine.
One thing I'm also very aware of is that this is a 24 year old bike, presumably the glue in the kit is of a similar vintage.
Looks to be some sort of superglue, something which, in my experience, isn't all that super when it comes to a solid and reliable bond.
So. Stick with super glue? Or should I use epoxy? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

It's a small tube of glue with the warning "Bonds skin and eyes in seconds" so I assume it's superglue. I've got some decent bearing fit grade cyanoacrylate at home.
@ No Blade. That's reassuring. Hopefully it's the same case with this.
It's just that I find superglue pretty brittle but if it's just stopping rotation rather than making sure my engine doesn't eat a small lump of brass, I'll be a lot happier. If they come adrift but stay in the carb, they can be reached through the airbox without taking the carbs off. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. JB Weld is completely fuel resistant once fully cured. That's what I would use. Mix it up, get it warm so it's runny and pop your part on. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Turns out I was worrying over nothing.
For one thing, it's like No Blade said, the needle never comes out far enough for it to escape.
For the other thing, it was a tight enough fit it needed to be drifted on (drift included in the kit) and is brass-on-brass so it'll expand at the same rate. Even without the glue (which I did use and was superglue) it's going nowhere.
All four carbs set up now, just need to fit them at the weekend.
My new JIS screwdrivers made the whole job a great degree less stressful and time consuming. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
